I got this xbox devkit a long time ago, but never bothered to repair it...
Basically its a full kit, but its missing HDD. It turns on, displays flubber animation and hangs on Xbox logo, even with unlocked hdd from another xbox connected.
I think its DVT3 and i've read somewhere that dvt3s used locked hdd. Is it true and if yes, what recovery disk I need to install new hdd in it ?

MB Pic, somebody please confirm that its dvt3:

Not sure if this will help, but on a retail xbox 1, I had an issue with the xbox hanging on the big Xbox logo screen like you've described. It wouldn't throw errors or anything, just freeze at that screen. It turned out that somehow something important must have gotton corrupted on my harddrive.

Since I had a backup of my eeprom and other important crap, I was able to reformat my harddrive and lock it back to the box to get it booting and working once again. I can't be sure if it will work for your XDK though, but I figured I'd throw it out there for ya.

As for the MB and dvt version, I've got no idea. I'm sure someone else will know though.

Looks like a DVT3 to me, based on the MCP X2 chip (confirmed it with old pictures that I have)

I believe the last XDK you can run is 3823, as that is what mine was running (though at one point I had an older build disk, dont have it anymore).

Finding a old recovery will be quite a hassle,I'll see if I can help you out.
Also don't attempt to use a recovery for a dvt4 on your dvt3.

Ok, looks like you must have original locked hdd inside dvt3 for recovery disk to work....
Im currently building eeprom reader, will try to dump eeprom, extract key, lock new hdd with it, and then try to run recovery disk again.
    I've found 3633 disk btw :)

I already have old recovery disk, thanks for offers though! :)
Problem is - it doesnt work.

Anyway thats what i've done so far: built eeprom reader, installed it into devkit, made eeprom dump. Now its weird, thats how it looks in Liveinfo:

    Hdd Key = 000000 ? Is that possible ?
I could lock hdd with 00000 and try to run recovery disk again, but before that - anybody here heard about 00000 hdd key in devkits ? Or is something wrong here ?
Eeprom Dump is good - i've read it several times with same output.

probably they hadn't settled on a final hd size by then, so they left the key blank to facilitate hd swapping.

I still chuckle at the thought that MS basically used a long forgotten part of the instruction set dormant in all harddrives (the ata password command) to lock their drives :)

Update on my situation, still cant get it to work :(

    1) If I try to connect unlocked hdd, with 3633 recovery dvd in drive (drive pulled from my retail xbox, it reads any dvds just fine - so its not a disk cant be read problem) - it passes boot up animation and just stays on xbox logo, dvd drive doesnt seems to read anything from dvd (it spins it up and detects disk, but nothing after that).
    2) If i lock this hdd with 000000...000 (32 zeroes), like in this hdd key from eeprom - it HANGS on boot-up animation, with repeating sound. It hangs at about 2 seconds from start.
If i eject the disk from drive - it resets and goes to screen with green xbox logo, like in the end of 1). Then it just stays on this screen like in 1)...

Any idea what I should do next ? I could modify eeprom with different hdd key, flash it to xbox and lock hdd with that key...but will that help ?

If somebody here has dvd3 and could just send me the the C:/ partition files...

Also what would happen if somebody flashed it with dvd4 recovery disk ? Maybe it was flashed with dvd4 and I cant do anything now...please help me
