Someone on another forum said they had a modded PAL Xbox lying around that they didn't know what to do with. I offered up $50 + shipping (which has turned into $70 shipped), but I don't know a lot about the Xbox. I'm waiting on pictures, but this is what I know so far: The chip is red and was soddered in. He's not sure if there is a dashboard/bios change. He gave me the model info and serial # (which I left out ;-) ) Xbox Korea Version Console Made in China F23-00065 Team FDDU I know it's not much, but does anyone have any guesses as to if it's worth a purchase/what kind of chip it is?
Er...what are you planning to do with a PAL Xbox? Are you after it just for the chip? Are Xbox chips really worth that much? Even if chips are worth that much, I still wouldn't rely on being able to take it out of that Xbox...
If you can use a PAL Xbox, I suppose it's a good deal. I know there are red Aladdin chips (worth about $15ish), and I think Xecutor 2.6s were made like that. Then again, this is all going from memory, and I never use the chips.
Powersupply. Youll need a converter. And chips dont automatically do it most of the time. Check out Xbox-scene for all the info you could ever need
OK,well, if you can get it to work here cheap enough, go for it. What was on my mind before was the fact that you'd need a PAL to NTSC converter and a power converter. Last time I checked, a step up converter (I looked at the online at Radio shack a few weeks back) tends to cost a minimum of about 30 bucks... If the chip doesn't convert the signal to NTSC though, I'd pass. A power converter is expensive enough already, a video converter would probably put your costs up to a point where it would be stupid to buy it. So...if a chip will convert the signal and you don't mind spending 30 bucks on a power converter...(or does Xbox have the type of power supply that can take 220 and 120 volts?)go for it.
No, it doesn't Very few home consoles do as its an unnecessary expense. You'll need a pretty beefy step up too - around 100W due to the xbox being a hungry beast.
The easiest way to convert it from PAL is by using enigmah ( i think its called that) and converting the eeprom, saves you time. If you want, you can find what version of xbox you have and swap the powersupply, so you dont need the converter (they are generally 20-30 bucks for a powersupply anyway) And the PStwo (at least my pal one) supports both, assuming you use the right plug
note after that video mode will be in NTSC but region will be still PAL... something you will need to think of in case you are taking on XLIVE...
Well just buy a american (NTSC) PSU.I've seen them go for around 15 to 20$ at most. You can always find them on here. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=12
1) Modded Xbox will never go on Live. 2) Buy an Xbox that is native to your region and either TSOP mod it or use a cheap chip. (that'll be cheaper than buying a PAL Xbox and the associated converters.) 3) The chip doesn't do signal conversion, the Xbox itself does. -hl718
1) Modded Xbox with disabling chip will go on Live just fine. 2) You can no longer TSOP flash Xbox'es. Not the new ones anyway. 3) True
