Currently your only option is to reinstall 3.40 or wait till the next firmware release.

With the PS3 on standby (red light) hold the power button until it beeps (like if you were reseting video) but do not release when it beeps.

It will power off again. That's normal.

Remove the finger from button and press it again, hold until it beeps. This time it will NOT power off. Wait a little more and it will do three beeps.

Then the recovery menu will appear.

Remember to have an USB drive with the 3.40 update in it before starting.

That's right, I'm sure Sony are hard at work killing people's drive lasers.

    Honestly.

I'll put it in a different way:

Blue laser diodes are a technology which still did not mature completely and the blue laser diodes currently made are still relatively flacky. Some people are lucky (like me and my CECHB from 2006 which never failed) others use theirs for a week and it fails.

Try calling several times. Depending on who you speak to, they often replace for free when it was firmware related.
