I've been on the fence about getting one for the longest time. Mostly because of Load times. I hate load times over 15 seconds

That said is there any real reason to have a Neo Geo CD or would I be better off with an AES/Phantom Converter or Super gun?

AES or a MVS modified into a supergun.

15 second load times? i can remember when it took about 2 mins to get to a loading screen, then another 5 mins to the game on the good old speccy!

as for the neo cd, no-one can tell you to buy or not, depends what you want it for, as a collectors piece or to play games on?

Yeah I remember how wowed I was when I jumped from Alpha 3 on PS1 to Alpha 3 on Dreamcast.......

anyways as for what my Neo CD would be for it'd be for gaming not a collectors piece (then again it could be both)

Isn't there a Neo CD Emulator for Dreamcast?

The games are generally a fair bit cheaper, but the selection isn't as good and the load times are a hassle - at least, that was as far as I got in looking into buying one. I didn't bother in the end; I'm not that interested in fighting games, and the Metal Slug series were available elsewhere, so there wasn't much in it for me.

If you are serious about investing in NeoGeo, buy a NeoGeo MVS and get a supergun together. It's still gonna cost you but it's less than buying a AES and AES games, you'll get better picture quality, some NeoGeo boards are very easy to install UniBios on since they have a socket, no loading times, complete selection of games to get, etc.

I have thought the same things as you, I'd love to have a NeoGeo, but it's so costly. Even though the NeoGeo CD is cheaper the game selection and quality suffers alot. NeoGeo MVS is the best way to go, unless you purely want to play the games. In that case buy a Xbox, mod it, build an arcade stick.

It's not very hard to make a functional supergun. The hard part is finishing it and making it look nice. I still have yet to finish my SG. I had it decently functional for awhile but I've had no space for it so it's in a box somewhere. I need to probably start fresh on it anyway esspecially since JROK makes component video boards now.

Another good reason to go Neo MVS is so you can use the SuperGun to play other arcade jamma titles you might decide you want to own. Just don't count on Midway games like Mortal Kombat to work on your TV. =( That was the main thing I wanted to play and the Midway games that are 53hz don't like my TVs.

SNK doesn't own the entire Neo catalog though. There are games produced by other companies, ex: Metal Slug although that's on PS2.

The thing is those PS2 NeoGeo ports ussually never come to the US. And one thing I really hate is that apparently SNK hates KoF 98 as there has only been the one DreamCast port of KoF 98 although with the crappy PSX port. No PS2 port of KoF98. ='(

Neo CD is a great system if you want to play some of the great games at a tenth of the price of the AES and usually still less than MVS. Fighting games can be tedious if you dont have the patience, as it loads between rounds as well as fights, but for games like metal slug or other shooters it's really not a problem as the load time between levels is kinda ideal to regroup and get ready for the next.

AES is still my favorite but I tend to play my Neo CD far more often as it's easier to store a stack of my favorite cd's in the game room as opposed to having 100 vhs size games taking up an entire portion of the room.

I'd say go for the CD if you hate fighting games (like I do, kinda). Load times on other games, especially the earlier ones, are really nothing to get upset about at all.

I'd love to have an MVS, but the carts are just such a waste of space... That always deterred me.

Alchy, didn´t ask for an XBOX neogeo CD emulator, he asked if there wasn´t a NEOGEO emulator for Dreamcast. And there is a NEOGEO Emulator for the Dreamcast.

If your into your games having great soundtracks, Neo Geo CD is the number one system. Worth it for this alone.

Bah, Go MVS already. The only headake from MVS is wondering if your cart is a bootleg but other then that you will get games for a good price.

Loading times are just too much for me in snk games on cd.
