Perhaps i can see if I can write a loader to dump 64DD stuff to the backup cart, assuming i ll get my hands on one of those, although I m certain that the official 64DD environment with all the LeoCommands would be more useful. If anyone has one and knows how to write and run n64 code (using the official tools) , pm me asap :rambo:

(it's times like these that I wish I knew any of the bung engineers  )

There's really only one engineer from the beginning to the "end", he's maybe still with them. I don't know why you'd need him though, I doubt he's ever written a single MIPS instruction, every one of their products is 6502(or 816) based or strictly logic.

I thought everyone who knows how to run N64 code can with a copier? Really, its no different than a cartridge. If you know how to read raw data from a DD then writing it to the flash is trivial. You'll first need to erase the sectors with a specific byte sequence then write the memory as you would RAM. I don't know how long the allotted cartridge space is, at least 512M, if it's 512M then you'll have to maybe use the cart's paging registers to switch between your program and the data your dumping, not terribly complicated.

So correct me if I'm wrong but is this mostly going to be used for uploading roms then playing them on your N64 much like the CD based copy units?

Yakumo, pretty much for most people out there, but I know there's a decent 10% who want to code the deck, myself included :)

There are some issues with 64DD.

Firstly, I cannot stream the data that is being coppied from the Disk to the cartridge, due to the "Burst-access" way it functions. Only one of the two cart-slots per given moment in time can access the hardware and that includes the RAM.

The reason why I want someone with the "official" kit is simple. The LeoCommand structures offer motor positioning, side choosing, read/write functions etc. I don't know their equivelant functions in raw . Most importantly however, consider the following.

To start the Deck with 64DD support you need to load the IPL, which needs to be onboard the backup device you have plugged-in the top slot. "introducing" the 64DD to the system, and placing the up-streamer loader in memory, only then can you insert a 64DD disk and start dumping to RAM piece by piece, pausing, copying RDRAM to Flash, clearing memory, and starting again from where you left off.

Does anyone have any news on the development of the Neoflash for the N64? This project seems to be dead :(

Exactly. What do you expect from them? They have always been like this. It's better to ignore them entirely. If you want a N64 backup device, buy one like the Z64, Doctor V64, etc. Or maybe beg Tototek to make something as their projects actually result in products you can buy and they even work too.

Dr. Neo told me that he was going to run into copyright issues with Nintendo if it was released, though he said the device itself was nearly finished.

As if enabling DS piracy was not as big a deal? I suppose they weigh the risk/benefit odds differently.

And using extracted copyrighted data from the NDS bios doesn't matter

It's silly how long it took them to come up with this when GBA carts are almost backwards compatible with the N64 interface.

hey, it's the infamous neoflash team after all! they are not exactly known to be fast.

if this is as "good" as their nintendo ds solutions i think i will pass on this one...

I don't really care for NeoFlash, but it would be nice if some new N64 devices were available. There are only so many Z64s, V64s, and CD64s out there.
