Neo also has a poor track record when it comes to long term support. They seem to pump out new products and just forget the old ones. -hl718
The one big advantage of this cart is that it can play any size ROMs up to 512 meg, so expanded ROMs etc are no worry. Plus it's just plain cool to have new n64 stuff.
Maybe I am blinded from a few favors (obtaining rare items) they did for me a few years ago, but too me NeoFlash has been nothing but great. Ordered a N64 Myth cart today, and look forward to check it out. I'm sure there will be bugs, but as an "early adopter" my expectations are never too high. If they release updates as frequent as they have done for their MD Myth cart I think life will be very good...
I personally like their products a lot and the ones I own have rarely let me down. They were one of the firsts to support the DS with those clunky pass-mes+GBA cart and it was good for the time. Their other stuff worked as advertised as well so I m looking forward to try the n64 dev device. It should be interesting to tinker with the 64DD stuff and some address changes on such a large memory pan.
Seems interesting. My v64jr is crapping out on me badly. sadly one of the reasons i've kept away from messing with n64/dd. I wonder if the cart will allow the n64 to write in rom space (like the jr does). Over all neo products seem ok but i'm not a big fan of their coding compos (poor judging, neo him self never reads the ****ing readme file or post).
Wow over 3 years later, it's finally for sale. It's nice that it's out now as I said before it's great if more options are out there. Hopefully someone here will get it and share with us their opinion of it. $200 is pretty pricey, though I suppose existing N64 devices are as well.
its nice there is new n64 solution, but man that price steep. Is it possible at all to make a fully functional 64 flash cart that doesn't cost more then a $100?
In theory, yes. But to keep if profitable you would have to produce vast quantities. Way more than the current demand.
Considering how similar they are to GBA, they could be produced for the same price with additional PCB and plastic costs.
Yes but they are in no way interested in being competitive when they don't have any competition. They would rather pinch every last penny out of you. Hopefully someone else like Tototek will come up with a new competing device that will lower the price of getting any N64 flash cart or copier.
That looks a million times better. I've heard before that because N64 cartridge access is relatively slow that directly using a CF card is possible and it beats an expensive proprietary GBA Flash cartridge big time. I really hope that he completes his project and gets it produced for sale. He could probably even contact Tototek if he needs help getting it produced to sell to the masses.
That one looks a million times better. I'm hoping a good alternative comes out, cause there would be some betas I would love to play on a retail console, what with how poorly 64 emulation is.
marshallh, I hope you get your project working and produced. Maybe you should contact tototek about production, I'm sure you'd make a pretty penny. Heck, I'd buy two of them ;P
