I just saw a NeoGeo MVS cab at a local pawnshop. They want $150 for it. My question is is it worth it to pick it up and attempt to fix the machine up? Its a tad beatup, paint peeling, missing a few of the included game panel things and a joystick is missing. I've never actually seen a NeoGeo MVS cab before. And surprisingly its in a town where the word arcade doesn't even exist (and never has). Heck the pawnshop owner is just basing the systems price just on how much is weighs. Anywho here are a few pics of it: Any thoughts?
How hard (and how expensive) doe you think it would be to restore it? Any chance of a resale value? Not that I'm going to sell it but I'd sill like to know the value.
i assume it has a 4 slot board in it, which is quite rare. but better check before you buy. those alone are worth ~$100+ i guess you will need to invest another ~$50+ in parts / paint / art before its good as new. i saw one of those go for $400 not too long ago, but it was in better shape and came with 4 games (not expensive ones, but still) so you can't really compare :/ my tip: try to talk him down to $100 and buy it (if it got the 4 slot board).
I like 'em, too. It's weird, as it looks so inefficient, but just happens to be chunky in the right places.
Yes, it's worth it. The 4 slot in our present economy is worth $100. I could get several for that price. Fatal Fury 2 is very common, only really worth $10 or so. Are there any other games in it? The stick will be a Happ and somewhere between $10-20. I have a feeling it was the Happ Ultimate 8 way which is $10.95 in red. If you want to touch up the paint, that won't cost too much, and you might even do it without hurting the artwork. You can get NOS side art for an MVS cab for $25, but it's the wrong writing. The marquees came with the games. You put them in to show what the machine is running. If you buy a complete MVS game kit, it'll have the art, so don't worry about that. It looks like it may only have Fatal Fury 2 in it, hence only 1 marquee. Buy it to do it up, play it and love it. Don't sell it! You probably won't get an awful lot for it the way things are at the moment. Hold on to it for a while and it should increase in value.
Well I just went back to the pawnshop and talked to the owner. I found out some more info on it. It actually comes with 8 games: Fatal Fury 2 Ninja Control Alpha Mission 2 Mutant Nation World Heroes Art Of Fighting Samurai Showdown II And another that is missing the label so I have no clue what it is. It also comes with the manuals and marquees. The inside of the unit looks clean, and I didn't notice any damage on the mainboard. The best part, he has a replacement control panel that came with the cab when he got it. He just never took the time to put it in. Also while the screen is dusty it doesn't seem to have any burn in. The biggest thing is that its been sitting there for about a year and a half being used as a door stop. He says it takes up way to much space and just wants it gone, so he is letting me take it off his hands for $60!!! h: I now own a Neo Geo MVS!!! :rambo: Thanks for the input guys!
Holy fark! First you say "it comes with 8 games" and I say to myself OK NOW IS WHEN YOU PULL OUT THE WALLET. Then... 60 bucks!? Yeah! Basically you traded Magic Knight for an MVS, LOL. The thing about pawn shops, (I don't know if you tried any tricks) is if you play your cards right, you can get things for muuuuch less than what they're "marked". Make sure you point out the flaws, seem about 75% interested (like, still reserved), and try and get them to sweeten the deal. If they don't push anything on you, then you ask them "how low they can go on it". A few months ago, I got a guitar pedal for 25 bucks. It was marked 40. It was a 1978 original Electro-Harmonix Big Muff, and I sold it on ebay for $140. But since he says it had been there for ages and wanted to get rid of it, I'm sure he probably basically wanted to give it to you already. Congrats, man, and enjoy! Now you can spend the excess money on some new sticks and buttons. At least switch the P2 ones so they're the right color order.
Very very very nice deal. Be careful with the 8 slot. I've heard they're prone to breaking due to the length and weight making them bend and break tracks. Take the carts out before you pick it up and move it.
Its is a 4 slot MVS, it just has 8 cartridges that come with it. Good advice though on how to move it.
Ah I figured when you said it came with 8 games that you'd discovered that it wasn't a four slot but an 8. I hate you. £30 for an MVS. Bastard.
8? Yeah... That'd require a pretty deep cab, and knowing the reliability of a 6-slot, it'd probably self-destruct during development. Regardless, ray:
I think you mean Ninja Combat or Ninja Commando, not Ninja Control. And Mutation Nation ;-) They're all common bar Alpha Mission II which goes for a bit more (especially if it is US not Japanese). Each cart is worth $10 still, though... more for AM2. That was an absolute bargain - well done! (you jammy sod!)
