h: Nice! You got quite a deal! Fixing it up/restoring it won't be that hard at all from the looks of it.
Oops forgot to mention that. There's no such thing as an 8 slot. The 6 slots are fine, some people had problems mainly due to their noobishness. There are only 1 slot, 2 slot, 4 slot and 6 slot. Although I have a 3 slot - some bastard sawed one of the slots off! Sounds like yo' mama! hehe j/k ;-)
hello not very well condition, but you could repair it, but don't forget to test all the slot (the 6 slot have bad réputation) and the screen
Then perhaps if one were to make a 32-slot MVS board, the universe would collapse in on itself? I never much cared for multi slot MVS boards but I can see the appeal.
-sigh- Ive wanted an arcade cab for so long and you get a Nice looking one that wouldnt even be that hard to fix up for only 60$. Thats like not even fair xD.
@Dark Seraph91 Trade you my cab for your XeDK Looks like I didn't understand the owner's definition of the words "replacement control panel". I went to his warehouse and picked up this: Which I promptly turned into this:
lol! Surely at least two decent sticks out of all that. How does everything feel? Did you get the cab home yet? Any shafty components that need to be swapped for decent playability?
Yeah, the panel (including sticks and buttons) is worth about $50 on its own, even in that condition. If you happened to find someone who needed a replacement NBA panel for whatever reason, the wood looks pretty solid and even if you couldn't get artwork there's enough to make a templte for repros from there.
@Twimfy I think I'll keep them, with the way my sister keeps hitting the buttons while playing Samurai Showdown II I'm going to end up replacing them sooner then I thought (seriously she has spent more time on the cab playing it then I have) I was going to post this earlier but with finals going on I didn’t really have the time until now. With the help of my sister and a friend, I was able get the cab home, but not with out incident (smashed foot). I ran the HW test as soon as I got it threw the door to check if everythign was okay. After I cleaned up the cab, killed a few dust bunnies, and collected $5 in change, I came up with a list of thing wrong: The Speakers do not work. I’ve traced the cables and they all connect in to the Jamma harness. I’m going to try and replace them a bit later. Luckily for the time being, the Cab has head phone jacks so I’ve just plugged in a pair of external speakers. The coin mechs are fragged. One will not stay in place and both jam instantly on the insertion of a quarter. Also the switches seem to be broken as well they both seem to keep saying I’ve got a coin when they don’t. I’ll probably just out right replace them instead of trying to fix them. The Marquee light board doesn’t light up at all and makes this horrifying high pitched noise. This noise prompted my cats to stand on edge and hiss at the cab, and eventually attempt an attack on the noise source (that was fun to watch). Light board is unplugged for the time being but will eventually be replaced. The locks on the machine (all of them, coin box, back case, etc) are all busted up. They can’t be fixed and just need to be replaced. One of the floor stands is farked up. The wood mount point is hosed as well, I’m going to need to figure out how to fix that, but for now I just removed all the feet so it sits flat. The color Red bleeds a bit. I need to find out how to adjust the colors on the CRT. The Stickers are scratched up. Need to find replacement stickers. Two buttons where non responsive, along with a missing 2P joystick. They where easily replaced using the spare parts I got earlier. I plan on replacing the 1P stick as well as it is a tad slower to respond then the replacement 2P stick. All in all, still not bad, I had done and initial survey of the cab when I first found it, and I thought it might have something horribly wrong with it, but I’m glad the worst things about it is that the floor stands and speakers are b0rked. I've posted all the pics of the clean up and initial play testing on my sight here: http://www.binarygrind.com/gallery/neogeo/
Make sure the obvious volume is turned up, and check to see if there is any hum or cracking when you turn the volume to full as it's unusual for both speakers to be busted, test with any old 8 ohm speaker tomake sure that the amp on board isn't busted. Unless you need these you might as well remove them If you wanted to replace these, it will probably cost as much as the machine as the ESL panels aren't cheap and you would have to connect them to the driver board (providing that's not fucked too). ESL sheets can be got here.... Surprise.... Sure it won't be too difficult to fix. The US Neo Geo 4 slot should have a Well Gardner K7000 chassis (and it looks like it). Here is the manual for it... The MVS has a crap colour bar test so it's hard to adjust, try unplugging the video cable and adjusting the Screen brightness (marked SCREEN on the big black flyback) so the screen is just a bit brighter then black and then adjust the brightness to see if that fixes it. Else you'll need to mess around with the gain (and maybe bias), use some nail polish to make a note of where the knobs were first (so you can go back if you cock it up) and adjust them with a plastic trimmer tool using someone elsee until the red is less bright. The control panel overlay and sides? Easy enough to find but again the cost will be more then the machine. Here for example Nice pictures, hope you get the rest of it working.
Quite a bit to do but it'll be worth it. If it all goes wrong or looks a bit too expensive then yank that board out and build a supergun out of the parts you have. Nice MVS collection, few shock boxes, it's win win really.
Check the speakers... They are probably good. The Neo Geo MVS boards have a few issues you can narrow down pretty quick. Check volume controls. There are separate ones for speakers vs. headphones on most MVS boards. Check +12v from power supply Check speakers Check headphones If you have sound from headphones and NOT from speakers, but the volume controls have been adjusted and you have +12v, and the speakers are good then you have a board problem. Fear not, this is common and what you need to do is replace bad caps on the audio section of the MVS board. RJ
...or amp. Caps are usually more common, though. Yeah, it's all pretty self explanatory. You don't need to replace the coin mech and marquee light - just live without them (wire a button for credit)... but you could get replacements. Locks, again you don't HAVE to replace them but they're easily done. Stickers, eh it's cosmetic and they'll be expensive if you find the right ones. Adjust the monitor, fix the audio and get the sticks how you want them. You can worry about the rest at a later date. All looks good
I have to say that i've never replaced a bad amp chip on a Neo Geo board and I've repaired a few dozen at least. The caps are such a bad problem I built cap kits for the boards and put 'em up on my website. RJ
