Well, not really, but some moron on a show called Storage Wars thought he'd get that much for the "first Nintendo DS ever built" because an NES with five games was sold on eBay for $13,000. Too bad the eBay auction had a complete copy of Stadium Events. Hilarity ensues at the expense of the moron  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4FV512vPHQ http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/...000-nes-so-does-this-guy-on-storage-wars.aspx
... you can see the guys heart break when the store owner told him abou the 10 dollars ... he was nearly crying... HILARIOUS! hanks for the vid, man!
Man... After seeing the video, I feel kinda bad for the guy... I thought people on those types of shows know everything about stuff. Or at least know a guy that specializes in knowing guys that know everything about stuff.
Friends don't let Guidos buy storage units. Though my neighbor won an auction for a storage unit the other month, gave me a sweet Mac 68k laptop and a bunch of stuff to go along with it in pristine condition.
If you follow the Game Informer link, you can see the entire episode. I only posted the Youtube clip because I couldn't get it to work, so it may not work outside the US. Loved how even after leaving the game store, he still thought the guy had wronged him and his filthy old NES must've been worth a fortune I didn't feel bad at all because he seemed like a douchebag...especially when he started badmouthing the game store guy after leaving the store Besides, how hard is it to check Google or something to find out how much an NES is really worth?
Well what do you expect? He thought it was a "Nintendo DS." Obviously he doesn't know shit about shit.
This Also, if he wanted the most he could get for it, it might have been prudent to test it first and then find out what it's actually worth rather than asking what the trade in price at a game store was....
I don't think he thought it was a "DS". Either it slipped or he was saying this was the original incarnation of a Nintendo product that led to the DS - of course the latter being only minutely correct.
He said, "This is the first Nintendo DS built." Unless you have magical, telepathic abilities, there's no way that could be read as "this was the original incarnation of a Nintendo product that led to the DS." A slip up, maybe, but don't give him too much credit.
It did pass through You Tube's evil copyright filter. it won't be in the next RF but expect it in Episode 6 Also The dude in this video does look like a douche
:lol:Storage Wars?! People make reality shows of anything these days... As for the NES-001, it's just what people think these days. Anything game related pre-90's and collectable should worth tons of money. Thankfully, that's not the case 99,9% of the time.
I've had trouble selling a NES for $5 console only. Shipping the damn thing across the country is more than that. Maybe if I ran a brick and mortar I could get $15.
Really? Are NES consoles more common in the US than in the UK then. Not unusual for a working console with all the wires and a couple of games to go for like £40+ over here. That's what like $65?
Yeah, the NES sold way better in the US than it did in the UK, so there's a lot more of them out there. I've been looking for a cheap NES in the UK just so I can test this one potentially valuable cart I have (i've got tons of Famiclones but 72->60 pin adapters are hard to find and unreliable), but it's quite hard to find one for under £20 even without all the cables and shit. They're much cheaper in the US but the shipping kills it.
I remember a family vacation in 6th grade where I went to London. I saw the games on the shelves were like a year behind the US... maybe more. I was all, 'fuck this place!'
