I recently got an nes top loader and I can't get it working. Every time I try a game I just get a blue screen. Is the RF modulator shot? Would doing an AV mod fix it?

    Thanks in advance,
    - John

Alot of things to check first like dirty connector and cartridge, check for bad caps mainly the power cap also check to see if the CPU and PPU are getting extremely hot after being on for a short period of time (hot as in you can't touch it) if it is then the component is toast. Check also the Voltage regulator is outputting 5V and finally try the AV mod, or skip all these tests and try the AV mod (best to try these steps first iso you don't wast time and effort).

I thoroughly cleaned the connector and still blue. How can you tell if the caps are bad? Leakage? And I assume the power cap is the large one under the heat sink. The CPU and PPU aren't hot at all. I'm probably just going to go for the av mod. Easy enough to install.

    Don't tell me that! Gaahhhh!

    :)

It's the most easiest thing to replace. Cleaning won't help alone, if the pins are bent out of line.

For the top loader? I know the front loader is easy to replace but the top loader is hard wired in place.

Oh right, thought this was a front loader. How have you cleaned it?

Is this blue screen from the AV channel on your TV, or does the NES give a blue screen when you put a game in and turn it on?

Get into contact with gametechus, he knows quite a bit about toploaders.

    Send a message by YouTube.

Have looked at the board for broken traces?

Contacted, very helpful. But I'm pretty much screwed. Probably a bad PPU or CPU, my worst fear. Oh well, thanks for the help everyone.
