Well, it's another shitty humid night so I decided to head off to the new arcade that recently opened 1 month ago, 2 minutes walk from my house ! To be honest I wasn't expecting much because from the outside the place looks like a kiddie arcade. The fact that all you can see down stairs through the window are UFO catchers, crappy Mario Kart arcade 2 and a baby's play corner didn't help. Up stairs seemed to just be full of gambling machines. Anyway, armed with my USB Spy Camera (Great for taking pictures where you shouldn't if you don't mind pretty crappy quality at times) I soon found out how wrong I was.

As you can see it doesn't look too hot from the outside.

This picture gives you just an idea of how close to my home this place really is.

Anyway, in I go weaving through all the kiddie shite to the back where I find this beauty !

Yep, it's a 2 player full hydraulic Afterburner Climax set up ! They don't even have this in Kokura which is about 5 times bigger than Chofu, where I live.

The game is amazing. Visuals are simply stunning as you dart in and out of canyons or volcanoes. as you'd expect it plays pretty much like the original Afterburner but now with some really cool extras such as the Climax feature. What this does is slow the action right down enabling you to "smart Bomb" enemies on screen. Of course this is limited so don't be using it all up on your first mission. It's also cool to see missiles slightly damage craft and have them twist through the air in a ball of flames

Here you can see the throttle control with the climax option just past the afterburner.

Another interesting game there that I'd never seen was this Japanese gagster style gun game called Too Spicy.

I didn't really like it to be honest. The game plays a little like Time Crisis in that you have foot peddles to move but unlike Time Crisis, the peddles in this game let you run left or right while still shooting at your target. Oh and when I say target I mean the only target on the stage. All you gave to do is take down one character to move on to the next stage. Not as easy as you might think though.

The gun is pretty cool. It's got a nice recoil as well.

There are loads of other cool games downstairs as well such as Initial D 4 although I don't think it's as good as the older games.

So after spending quite a while downstairs I decided to take a look upstairs not expecting much apart from a load of dull gambling and pachinko machines. Again, how wrong I was.

Fighting and shooting game heaven ! I couldn't really get on to any of the fighting games since they were occupied by the "pros" who never get the fuck off. However I did have quite a few sessions on this

You can see Out Run 2 Special behind the AfterBurner Climax Cab and if you look very closely you can also see the side beem of the Initial D 4 cabinet ;-) Other racers there were Battle Gear 4 (Taito), Mario Arcade 2 (Namco), Wangan Midnight Run Maximum Tune (Namco) another one of my loved games and that Konami Speed Thrill 3 or somthing like that.

Sure, once I charge the battery in the normal camera. It's nothing special mind you. Just a cheap looking box with a lense and 3 buttons. One for power on or off, another sliding switch for close or far shots and the shutter. No screen or LCD to tell you how many pictures you've taken. I got it out of a UFO catcher a few months back. They have alsorts of crap inthem such as cheap MP3 player, Famicom clones or even nastly radio controlled cars.

    Speed Thrill 3...

It's quite a good game with multiplayers. I find it much better then Burnout.

Wangan Midnight is a great game, had several credits of that today. :love2:

    Still looks a great arcade.

How far did you get on DDP Black Label? Hard as balls game... and it's easier than the regular edition.

One thing I found somewhat amusing is apparently over there they are nice enough to have chairs/stools/whatever where as every arcade I've been to here you stand up all the time unless you're playing one of thse sit down racing style games.

I also found is so funny it's giant sign says "GAME". It reminds me of these shows like YuGiOh where they goto the "GAME" shop. Wow that's such a nice descriptive and unique name for your establishment.

Lots of shiney stuff in there though it looks like.

They have one of those Afterburner climax machines near me in Park Royal (west London) It looks absolutely stunning and would play well if i wasnt left handed!!! the fire button isnt central and i found it really really frustrating!!! It did however give you a lot of play time with one credit so i basicaly got a <5% enemy downed rate and had a nice fly about.
