I like how brightly lit the arcade is. All the arcades around here are dark and inhabited by goth kids.
I'm home for the summer now in Tacoma. And there are "arcades" at the local malls. Basically MvC2, DDR, and Silent Scope... Nothing like Yakumo's.
Surely you know of the bgigest chain of game shops in the UK, known as GAME? Their logo is literally the word GAME. It's almost the law to hate them, due to their clueless staff, tactic of preying on casual gamers/gift buyers and their buyout of Gamestation.
Well, considering Japanse doesn't have plurals and "game" is a Japanese word (ゲーム) the sign is hardly strange.
On the other side of the building it says Amipara in Roman letters. I take it that's the arcade's real name. When it was being built I was praying to God that it would be some sort of Mega otaku game shop  I never would have thought they would have built another arcade in Chofu, a town with a small population, most of which are doctors, lawyers or old people. Now in Shimonoseki (The city that Chofu is part of) has 3 Sega arcades, 3 indie arcades and 2 sleazy porno mahjong with a few other extra bits and bobs arcades. All this in a city with a population of 301,097 (as of the year 2000) Pretty cool isn't it
I hate GAME, I went in and asked for a Electroplankton DS and then asked if they had still sealed copies and they looked at me like i had taken a shit in the middle of the floor. I mean it`s not like i can resell and make a profit the prices they charge.
Worst bit is how they won't let you return games if the seal is broken now, I was given the reason "it's no longer in new condition", so why do they routinely gut games and place them back in the box only upon purchase, the games even been out of the box by the time it reaches you in the majority of cases. Yes I could be considered bias for working in Gamestation, but there's a good reason I chose to get a job there rather than GAME. Anyway, don't wanna turn this into a GAME thread so I'll shut up now.
I don't have any great arcades where I live, but I went to a couple really cool ones in Florida the other day. At a GameWorks (sega-owned arcade chain) I went to they had an Initial D Arcade Stage 3 that was in some sort of VR cage. It was suspended in the air and it would turn or tilt based on your position on the track, shake when you hit stuff, etc. It was pretty cool, but the downside was that it didn't have a card system.
My nearest arcade has DDR, Pump It Up, and "Payout games" - the kind that spew out worthless tickets to redeem for worthless crap, and... that's it! I think there might be some OLD shooter like Mad Dog McCree in the back or something, I dunno I avoid that place because it makes me sad.
300,000 people, and you guys have more arcades than all of western Canada. Vancouver has a population or ~2 mil, and the only arcade was Playdium in the Metrotown mall. It was awesome though, you used pre-paid cards instead of quarters, and there were huge (must be 100"+ screens) for DDR and Virtua Tennis, one of the 'punch kick' rings for Tekken 3, and soo many pinball and Golden-Axe-esque (side-scrolling beat em ups I guess) upstairs. Sometimes, my friends and I would all get all day playcards (as many games as you want for a one-off fee, $30 or something), and we'd beat Spawn multiplayer. It closed 2 years ago. Oh great, now I feel all sad and nostalgic :crying:
Sexy stuff! There's a couple of Arcades here in Holland, some we get to play some of the newer titles but they're too far away from me to visit often.
That looks amazing h: If we had arcades like that in the UK I would go everyday of the week! The VF cabs and afterbuner are ace  Thanks for the great High res pictures
