Comic books are stupid with all the plot twists and changes to major characters.

That shit is one of the many reasons why I dislike superhero comics so much. They always have to change things until they get ridiculous. One of the 1000 different Superman comics featured a long story that got more and more fucked up over about 20 issues or so and then they revealed it was all just an illusion or some shit like that. Pop, dream's over, everthing is like 20 issues ago, you can start buying our comics again, mistake has been erased.

Maybe it was better when it was all fresh, like in the 50's and 60's, but I don't know for sure because I've not read it yet. What I know for sure is that I will never touch anything of that new garbage and that includes the past 20+ years. You would think that a company with hypothetically infinite ressources of creative heads could come up with something that doesn't sound like a stupid trailertrash girl's generic soap opera.

I find it hard to imagine what they could come up with next. It can hardly get more absurd than "Spiderman is now black and gay". This either has to be an April's fool or...

They said he might be gay. Maybe. In the future.

    Then he could date Northstar.

I've heard that they HAVE to continue making these movies at any costs, or else the license runs out.
So be prepared for many many more of 'em in near future.

This isn't for the new movie. It's in the comic book.

49 Years of a recogniseable character and they change the character which is undoubtably to make it more politically correct, My main thought is, WHY? Nobody was crying racist, Peter Parker as spiderman was easily recognisable. Why not just create a new character in his own universe (I don't think Hulk spiderman superman etc are all in the same universe). Double the money and you get your black character.

    Devil's Advocate:
Technically, this is happening in the Ultimate universe, and not in the traditional universe where Amazing Spider-Man takes place. So, yes, in some small corner of the Marvel universe that very few people give a shit about, Spider-Man is now a black-hispanic kid who may eventually have a "coming out of the closet" issue.

That said, it's still retarded. I don't think Marvel has a talented writer left there. I enjoyed the Brand New Day stuff for awhile (where Parker makes a deal with the devil to where the past got changed up to where he never married Mary Jane, it sounds bizarre, but it temporarily returned Amazing Spider-Man to something resembling the old comics), but then they brought up goddamn Ben Reilly (Peter Parker's clone) and I quit reading on the spot. That clone shit back in the day was beyond absurd.

Shit, they killed Peter Parker? Never saw that coming. Quit reading Spiderman around college time.

It's fucking stupid, that's all there is to it. Why change Spiderman to a black Hispanic who may be gay? WTF doesn't come close. If Spiderman was always a black Hispanic and they changed him to a white guy I'd still have the same response.

I'm surprised anyone actually gives any kind of a fuck at all to be honest.

Are comic books like this even relevant anymore? I mean, really?

    Comics still have their niche

I also should point out nobody raised a stink when they made Nick Fury Black

I really do not give a fuck about Marvel any more, Or for that matter DC. Yes, I do enjoy reading some good Wolverine comics, but if they make him gay. And he quits the cigars, then I am like "fuck it !". Does any one remember the God awful daredevil film ? I mean Wilson Fisk was suddenly a mixed race dude, and that was just the last straw of a bad film. Seriously I thought Spiderman was awesome until he killed his uncle´s murderer by accident. Cause neither Daredevil or Spiderman kills people. In the creed of Peter Parker´s uncle, with great powers, comes great responsibility. And Daredevil is perhaps an ass-kicking lawyer, but neither he kills in the comics. Even though he plays a wicked game of Russian roulette with Bullseye , who has no idea. That Matthew Michael "Matt" Murdock has not put any bullets in the 38. calibre revolver. Yeah, I have every Frank Miller Daredevil comic, except one in Danish. Oh yeah if you really want to nitpick, then he does "kill" one person in a comic, where he meets Electra (after he had thought she was long gone) , the Danish name for that comic is "The Shadow Fall" (Skyggefaldet in Danish) sadly I can not find a comic picture of it. But that comic was an awesome series . Nick Fury as a black man ? well let him be that in the Ultimate Marvel franchise, I really do not care.

But then again, let the "bug" be gay okay, I mean one of the first HIV positive super heroes I read was Shadowhawk, and that was such an awesome comic. He was black, and HIV positive.

As a very effeminate (but straight) hispanic man, I'm sort of compelled to buy Spiderman comics now.

..... is what they'd expect me to say to this news, right? No siree, this is not a comic for me at all. But maybe it's interesting, and indeed, it is a side story, not canon.

But this is sort of like how they made Little Mac into a Mexican (or at least hispanic) in the new Punch Out.

Only because they based him on Samuel "MOTHERFUCKING" Jackson. That is an exception to almost any rule.
