It actually bothered me quite a bit. Then they made comic book Nick Fury look like Sam Jackson. I was very pissed.

I don't even understand how he can suddenly be black (and maybe gay). If this was a spinoff, alright (or is it?), but taken for granted that this is the continuation of the Peter Parker series I don't know how it would be possible to implement it into the story.

And why does he have to be black and maybe gay. Do we really need to make him politically correct only because there are black people reading spiderman? Do black celebrities need to paint themselves white from time to time because they have a mixed audience? It's just retarded. I bet if they would still be making Donald Duck comics in the US, we'd already have a black gay Uncle Scrooge. What's next, Chinese shemale Spiderman? Arabian hermaphrodite Spiderman? Maybe they should start a sub-series for every possible sexual orientation and racial difference.

Typical Daily Mail to make out as though it's the end of the world or some anti-white, anti-heterosexual conspiracy.
This would be the general message of the commenters on that particular article "as if homosexual foreigners coming over in lorries wasn't enough now they're invading our comics!! mark my words they're trying to make your child a black homosexual!!!!!!!"
The mail is the sort of paper you would expect J Jonah Jameson to be in charge of

I do think it's odd that they would kill off parker, but hey if it's not even in the same universe, I don't really see a problem with it, in the cartoon thre was an alternate universe where a completely different guy was spider-man so hell why not, as long as the parker version still exists

At this point, I think they should put someone to think and create a new character from scratch. You could make him/her have any ethnicity, sexual orientation or whatever.

I still find it a little insulting though... It's like someone said "Hey, let's add all the 'minorities' we can to this character and see how he stands it".
Next thing you know, Green Goblin will be a part Jewish part Korean Transexual with a physical disability....

It's nice that they are embracing social diversity, but this seems to be a desperate attempt at attaining some grasp on the american social reality. I think it will fail miserably.

I don't see what the big deal is. They're just giving him a different background - what's so bad about that? Would you be saying the same thing if he was black/Latino to begin with and suddenly he was white? Anyway, I don't care either way. Pretty much the only comics I read are those by Jhonen Vasquez, and the occasional manga.

I am a white NON GLBT phobic person, and I am NOT racist either. But I must say this, I am in some ways a purist when it comes to comics. But as I said, let them make The Green Goblin midget , who is half Hebrew , half Korean , and an intersexed/hermaphrodite . As long as it is in the the comic universe known as Ultimate Marvel, cause then it is fabulous there. I am just sick and tired of the bullshit we all get from the movies that basically fucks up the good stuff from the comics. Even Wolverine Origins (the film) sucked major donkey balls, and made Sabretooth his brother, which he is not. Even though James Howlett ("Logan") looks rather familiar to Logan who is a part of the Howlett estate. In the comic. Second of all Victor Creed is not at all as old as Logan. Yes, they can be related, through "dog" if you are familiar with the comic of "Wolverine Origin".

I don't care one way or the other but I do think there would be way more of an uproar if he was originally Black/Latino and they made him White. There would be at least one group screaming about how Marvel is ruining one of the few minority comic characters and calling for a boycott.

Well... yeah I would if it had been in place for 40+ years and was instantly recognizable.

They did have a hispanic spiderman with 2099, but that was the future, and there was even an issue with Peter Parker Spiderman. It's not like they killed him to replace him.

Yeah, I read into the series. The point is, it's not like they killed off the Peter Parker spiderman, he died after 100 years or so.

My point is, if they're gonna make such a rip off the character, why not introduce a whole new character to begin with?

    That's what I dont get.

And yeah, I would be thinking the exact same thing if he had been black to begin with and then had changed him to white. Its just the same nonsense

    One question I need answering.

Are they continuing the original spiderman or scrapping it all together?

Brian Michael Bendis is a genius as far as I am concerned. Ultimate Spider-Man has been consistently excellent trough it's run (contrary to the rest of the line, Fantastic Four and X-Men never took off, as soon as Mark Millar left the Ultimates it became a bad title).

Marvel has been for a decade masters of making people talk about them. It won´t save the comic book market but I love to read people reactions. And the fact that once in a while they back the hype with good writers and artists just makes it better for me.

I will read this...as soon as I catchup, it's been a while since I read Ultimate Spdier-Man. Been away from comics for a few months...

It's also kinda weird that they're still making Spider Man comics after all these years.
