Hello, I recently came across a deal on a DECR-1000a that was too good to pass up, so I thought it would be an interesting endeavor to get one of these setup and restored. After a few days of research I've been able to get it flashed to 4.5 with MultiMan and RetroArch running, and get the SDK running as well. Unfortunately, the BDEMU drive appears to have been wiped by the liquidator who sold it to me. My question is, has anyone been successful in using any data recovery tools to recover data from BDEMU drives? I've hooked it up to my desktop and tried using the BDEMU tool that came with the SDK and it appears to not have any partition tables present. Secondly, I'm unable to get the reference tool controller (DECR-1010) to work. From reading other threads on Assembler, it looks like these controllers need a FW update but I'm unable to find it anywhere. If anyone has any info on this and could PM me, I'd really appreciate it. Lastly, has anyone been successful with getting a generic Wifi/BT antenna working on the DECR? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I think the last version the 1010 works is 2.8? I also read something about flashing the controller, but never seen a tool in the wild. You can try to restore the drives with a linux recovery like TestDisk.
Thanks for the information! I actually started a TestDisk scan a couple days ago but I didn't let it finish so that's good to know. I'll give it another try today. Regarding the 1010 firmware, there's a thread on here where people were discussing its availability on Sony's dev net, but it looks like it was never released to the public. If anyone is looking for a cheap DECR, I think this guy has another available (US). I was tempted to pick up both but they're not easy to hide and my gf hasn't noticed the first one yet - I don't want to push my luck.
There was someone who had 2 listed on eBay for $975 a couple weeks ago, I offered $250 and he accepted... After it arrived I messaged him asking if he had any other dev hardware, he told me he still has one DECR. I believe he's in Mass. Neither had any accessories (stand/antenna), however mine works perfectly. Seller ID is pcexchange_sales
Haha, I'll have to add it in there. Ironically enough, this is my first PS3 system (not counting a YLOD system I found in the garbage and fixed before it broke a week later). Anyway, after a week of digging through dead links, I managed to find several FW versions as well as SDK. So if anyone ends up grabbing the second DECR, I'm happy to help out with what I have.
You are lucky, a functional unit is usually worth 10 times I much, I would get it if only I was in the U.S. or didn't already own one.
Theyve come down a lot in price lately. Can find one for $500 if you are patient enough at this point. Still a great deal though.
I'm guessing now is the best time to get one since developers are discontinuing PS3 development and these are being liquidated to wholesalers.
