There's a revision of the DS coming in the next six months. What do you think they added or changed? I am guessing it is : 1. Cheaper 2. Thinner
I'm sick of improved consoles coming out every year. It makes me feel like I got ripped when I bought the original version. And seeing as how I just recently sold my original DS and got a Lite (well, actually I found it on a plane, but you know...) I really don't want to get a new one.
While there is rumors, I dont see a revision comming out in 6 months. Slim maybe end of 08 but thats still a slim chance. There is still no reason to need a new model.
So rather then hand it in like a good citizen you decided to steal it from some child who probably ended up crying that night. Back on top, what will be different? Nintendo's bank balance when all the fan boys go out and buy it. Wonder if they will redesign the Wii get rid of the Gamecube slots make it even smaller and sell more. :banghead: Seriously I can see them dropping the GBA slot to make the machine much smaller as very little does really use it so for people that just play Brain Training or Nintenhamster it would help reduce the footprint to maybe to palm pilot size. Bet Palm wished they got one of the games companies to support the Palm now... :crying:
Supposedly on-board memory according to gonintendo.com. It won't be too terribly hard to find DS/DS lite units if and when a new model is released. GBA support is something not everyone uses.. but it is nice to have of course. I don't really use it, except for my EZ Flash 3-in-1 and even then I can do without it. I'm wondering if this new model will coexist as the GBAmicro did with GPASP or if it's intended to replace..
I'll agree about dropping the GBA slot. I'll also go out on a limb and say that they are going to add either: 1) Media card slot or flash storage (accessible through WiFi) for pictures/music/video 2) Smaller size (since there are still some people who can actually hold it comfortably) 3) Cell phone capabilities
Well, it was in my seatback pocket when we landed, meaning that whoever owned it was probably in another state at that point - so turning it in wouldn't have gotten it back to the owner. On an unrelated note, it is a hobby of mine to go rampaging through the streets and stealing consumer electronics from small children. :rambo:
no GBA support would also mean no support for some games that had expansions thru the GBA slot, like Band Bros in Japan. the GBA slot is an integral part of the DS design in my view, not just for GBA gameplay.
And removing the GBA port wouldn't make the NDS much smaller, a gba cartidge is almost the same size as the NDS screen. Maybe it would make it thinner, but nothing more. But as most of people don't use GBA games, Nintendo wouldn't mind removing it (as they did for the link port on GBA micro..)
Pehaps they could do an external GBA "dongle" type device which could clip on the back of the DS and up into the Ext port or something - sell it as an optional extra and everyone's a winner right?
well they can't remove anything but for the GBA port. The DS very much uses the ARM7. I m uncertain that removing a port would be a considerable cost cutter - but then again they re known for being cheap: the removal of the Ditigal Out on the GC comes to mind.
Not really. It would shave off barely anything. All the HW still has to stay since it's an integrated part in the DS functionality. Over all the rumors for the new DS would make the unit more expensive to manufacture actualy.
I bet the internal memory and lack of GBA slot is just a way for nintendo to profit on the VC scheme by forcing gamers to rebuy the GBA games they already have. About the bigger screen, I'll rather have one with more resolution...
it will be about the same size of exsisting units, and perhaps have a finish with a matt interior and gloss exterior, kinda like the same now, but a little more like the new ipods the only hardware differences will be this: -instead of axing the gba support, the cartridge is still there, except now it will accept SD Cards and have 64mb of on board ram. -The firmware will be updated to include a "virtual console" channel from the menu. Players will be able to download classic NES/SMS/GG/GBA games using the same system the wii uses. -Like announced earlier, the added SD slot will also give players access to the DSWare...and be able to develop their own small titles (which will be no bigger than 3megs and locked to a specific system This way, Nintendo can introduce a new console with new features, while being able to offer these features to exsisting ds owners....
