We all know about Superman 64, while less know of a cancelled Superman game for PlayStation.

It looks good for being on the Playstation that's for sure, the game still looks pretty bad though.

Didn't some guy who owned a copy of this beta claim he'd smashed up the disc in anger a year or so ago? (on these very forums)

Nice to see he was either lying, or another copy is out there in the wild.

As I said the last time, multiple people have had the game, so it wasn't a unique copy or anything.

Yeah sure he did! He had made this edict about never releasing the rom in the first post he made on the subject, which rubbed people the wrong way. Only offering to do a code dump, though I still don't know what that meant. In the heated exchange, he cried and vowed never to discuss it again. It's not like the game rom hasn't been found, and therefore videos and stills are all we have available. The game exists, so the only newsworthy event that will ever get people to care about this game is the release of the rom publicly. Until then it's just a lousy tease on anyone who does care about it.

i remember that thread. he quoted something i said "since i'm being a bit of an ass" just before announcing smashing the disk up. i felt a little responsible for hurting the guys feelings but i did not think he would react that way over something rather trivial. what a shame.

I disagree. Not only are you not running through rings, it appears you had more freedom to maneuver around the environment. It also looks much more stable than the N64 version. Granted, any game is suppose to be stable but at least we could tell the developer cared for this game more than many other game-making "efforts" based on the Superman property.

There could be as many as 3 others that I am aware of.

Playstation museum has one no? Call this copy #1. If so it should be posted on his website.

I have one somewhere but have not seen it for years. Call this copy #2

Then There is another collector who may have one. Call this copy #3.

However it is possible #3 and #1 are the same and also possible that Playstation Museum later sold his copy. Now if Playstation museum sold it to the guy who smashed his copy then that only leaves #2 that I am aware of.

He made it clear he wasn't releasing a full ROM dump and said why in the very first post.

It was the next couple posters after that that twisted what he said and made it sound worse than what it was.

He wasn't a "douchebag" about it at all. He had every right to get upset when people started twisting his words. Most of them were people who barely post and when they do it was to try getting free stuff. A bunch of people threw hissy fits all because they couldn't get a free beta of a game they apparently think is crap to begin with. It made no sense at all.

Nobody twisted his words, Mr Mandel just edited his original post...

Anyway, as for Mr. Mandel's alleged "fit of rage" - check his profile, he was visiting the forums until a few months ago - that's how much he hates the forums.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if this entire revival of Superman on the PSX is just a ploy to drum up interest in a possible fundraiser for his unsnapped copy of the game. The more controversy, more discussion, more heated exchanges all equals free publicity. Fatten the cow long enough and you'll make a tidy sum.

    Let's see what happens next...

rmandel was a cool guy on THIA, documenting the RE 1.5 trajectory and all. The over reaction in his Superman thread was weird and unexpected to be honest.

Wait, you have one? Dump it! :)

His thread posts seemed to be instigating trouble from the outset. He said he would do a data dump. What is a data dump? He wouldn't answer that. We've seen videos and stills of the game. After a decade and a half now, why continue to tease with screen caps?

Playstation Museum didn't own the game. They were loaned it to take footage to post online and review it.

Buyatari can't dump it, as he lost his copy (if I'm reading it correctly)

Yeah. I'm fairly certain I've seen this title around before. Can't say 100% for sure if it's been up for grabs ... mostly 'cause it's never really been on my radar. (Only ports I care for are those that are either cross-gen or somehow technically amusing)

If only his 1.5 documentation was actually accurate, and not just spiraling into a bunch of pure fiction, it'd actually be worth something. Now it just feels like it's a bunch of dated Internet quotes, mixed with wishful thinking and prime time soap opera writing.

It's a bit funny that he went on to create such a scene out of it, since he was one of those who's been vocal about others "witholding" stuff and I actually wrote him in private a couple of weeks before that thread went up too; more or less warning him or pointing out that his posts "as of late" had (the way I saw it) turned into a sort "preaching" and "attention whoring" thing, which would probably sooner or later blow up in his face. Two weeks later ... ka-boom! Thread backfire!

    What exactly wasn't accurate?

^Well, right now that thing + his follow up posts online to it are the size of King James Bible, so not gonna spend time poking out individual lines, but a lot of the material in it is pure work of fiction, and a lot of the later entries of his are retelling amazing Space Jesus stories starring named individuals from the Resident Evil community in a way about as accurate to reality as Game of Thrones or the works of the late J.R.R. Tolkien would be. When I see myself, or people I know, put into situations we've had nothing to do with and the situations or events where we've been involved gets completely mangled beyond recognition, seemingly for the sake of his narrative ... or in order to feed some sort of drama craving audience he's found for this "documentation", it pretty much says enough about how unreliable that thing has gotten over time (basically from the very moment it expanded from being a rather nice and extensive collection of quotes and dates gathered from the web, to becoming a work fiction full of Ancient Aliens level conspiracy stuff).

I mean, I could maybe see it serve as a sort of deliberate attempt at getting people to "correct" his mistakes, by deliberately putting in glaring errors that'll hopefully provoke people into revealing something or whatever, but I honestly wouldn't give him that much credit ... Not after seeing how the Superman stuff went down.

Either way, didn't mean to derail this thread. Just figured I'd shoot that out, since the subject was brought up and I really don't think too highly of someone who'll actively miscredit and discredit people who've actively contributed with things, meanwhile doing almost fuck all to contribute with anything themselves (other than said aforementioned slandering) and just basking in their own hypocrisy.
