I'm going to put up a new portal / front page. The site will no longer be just the message boards.

I need suggestions for a blog type front page.
I don't care if I have to buy it. This is for ease use and ability to post news
    and videos.

So any suggestions would be happily taken.

Try Drupal. Seems like a lovely CMS. Even better, it's free and open source.
I presume it will be BIG soon.

Drupal and Joomla are a couple of the more popular ones. Plenty of community created functionality add-ons for both. I would suggest making a list of absolutely everything that you currently and might in the future want the portal to do. Look at the support forums for the portals and make sure that the functionality you are looking for is actually available.

I'm using Joomla for a basic portal and I have been pleased with it. The only functionality that I want which it doesn't currently have (but may soon) is complete forum integration. In other words, having side or top menus supplied by the site portal while looking in the site forum.

But if you look, there are ways to integrate forums, like on my site, so that they share accounts with Joomla and look great. Sure, its not built in, but it still works damn well

I didn't want the database integration, which every integration solution (for Joomla at least) requires using. I did my own visual integration by hand (currently removed), but that requires a lot of PHP changes and makes it impossible to upgrade the forum software without redoing all of the changes. Not knowing how ASSEMbler wants to combine the portal with the forums, it was something that I thought was worth mentioning.

I wrote my own at gamengai. The "news" interface on the right side is taken directly from the phpbb forums (any thing w/ []'s in the subject). You can then limit people who can post in a specific forum (news, for instance) and anytime they post, it's reflected on the front page. Pretty easy actually... you'd just need to peak at the Vbulletin tables.

Surely there are plugins for VB that have portal-like functionality?

Don't worry man, your English is farrr better than my Italian.

That sentence is fine, apart from the "doesn't". In that situation, you would use "don't" instead. When talking about yourself or a group of people, use don't, when talking about one person who isn't you, use doesn't.

    Examples:
"We don't have a portal" - We, as in us (including you)
"He doesn't have a portal" - Him, 1 person, not you
"They don't have a portal" - Them, group without you
    "I don't have a portal" - You.

Hope this helps :) Thanks for learning English, I don't know your language :(

    To add for clarification:

doesn't is a form of "does not" and is used with the third-person singular, i.e. He doesn't, She doesn't, It doesn't.

don't is a form of "do not" and is used in the third-person plural (more than one person) and the first and second-person singular, i.e. They don't, I don't, You don't
