    Hello,

I live in New York, and would appreciate some advice on a new flatscreen HDTV for gaming in my room.

I'm working on a limited budget (less than $1500, if possible), and want something that supports at least 1080i, is larger than 22", widescreen and non-CRT or rear-prokection. I also want something that doesn't blur at all - I've found a lot of LCD TV's I've used have been terrible for gaming, despite reviews saying the refresh rate is good.

Some of the units I'm looking at:

    http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Pola...sem/rpsm/oid/119330/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
    Polaroid 26" HD LCD - $900
Very cheap and looks quite good.

    Westinghouse 27" HD LCD - $949

Anyway, would really appreciate some advice or suggestions. I recently moved from the UK to NY, so I'm a little green on where in the US is good value!

    Thanks,

    Hugh.

Well, I know next to nothing about HDTV's and all that muck (being a poor college student kekekeke), but welcome to the board. Hope you stick around :)

Hmm... I would probably go for the Polaroid, but like AntiPasta, I don't know much about HDTV's. I just like the look of the Polaroid better :D

    Yeah, and welcome to ASSEMbler.

Agreed. However, if anyone has any other views on other good models, that'd be interesting too...

Even better, if any NY members want to unload a TV on me, let me know!

I can't remember where, but I have heard good things about Polaroids.

    As for value...

I still don't think it's the right time to buy an HDTV...(Theres still a lot of TV here that isn't HD)...but I think the ones that you're looking are alright on pricing. About right where they should be, I think.

    PS: Welcome

PPS: Was I the only one thinking this thread would be about a product similar to GXTV?

What do you mean by this? Are prices likely to significantly drop before the end of the year when the the XB360 is released?

    Thanks.

    :D

    j/k

    Welcome aboard!

I have not heard of either companies making tvs. Hell, they are probably both made by LG in China anyway. I tend think that either will be fine, but I'd pick the one with the best warranty. errr... check that, they are the same. I'd choose the Westinghouse based on specs.

My best advice is to check the TV's out before buying them. Nothing beats seeing them in real life, side by side. Even if you don't buy it in the shop, you go out knowing what you want, and what you should expect when you receive it

I don't know about a price drop when 360 releases, but I just feel that they're too expensive for what you get right now. I say just buy a hugeass standard, non HD television and ride it out until HD is more reasonably priced.
