I know it's on EBay, but I was looking to discuss the box rather than the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140352256400#ht_1682wt_1165=

Very cool(?) to finally see this one found, I remember reading a long while back on the lost levels that this box was used as an office hockey puck for EGM.

With the mock up box and the length of time between the game getting announced and then ultimately getting canceled, I have to assume production at least started on this one. I'd love to see so much as a screen shot surface just to see how horrible it was going to be, but I feel like the likelihood of that because less and less each day.

Oh yeah, the auction is expected to hit 4 digits... :katamari:

When it's likely the closest thing to a high profile unreleased NES game, the crazys seem to come out in full force.

Wow, what an odd item. It's existence seems so superficial.

Pictures saved, since eBay auctions obviously vanish after a certain time, and in case the auction winner puts up no pictures:

How difficult would it be to simply fake a box like this? I can't see it as being very hard. Especially if you beat it up afterwards.

The seller's husband worked for EGM (he just recently passed away) and has had quite a lot of extremely rare NES stuff with some protos from other systems sprinkled in as well. Sure, it could be faked after this one, but rest assured this thing is a million percent legit.

There was a thread way back on the lost levels that talked about how EGM used to use this very display box as an office hockey puck. This could easily explain it's current condition too.

Any guesses at an end price? I'm going with $1,189.

Just from thos pictures, it would take me a total of 20 minutes or less to edit, print, tape, and have a full reproduction of this. I will never understand how people will waste money on useless shit. Must be nice to have a disposable income.

Yep, adds a whole new meaning to "disposable" income.

That story certainly raises the value in my opinion.

But as someone said in another thread, never underestimate the value of cardboard.

    Andrew Baran: http://kotaku.com/5324249/egm-writer-passes-away

She's really cool shit, I hope she gets as much as she can out of this box just with all of the stuff she's had to go through recently.

So no one else wants to guess what this will end at? I just think it's funny how much hype this thing is getting. I snagged my most recent unreleased NES game for $300 (Spy vs Spy 2), I bet this triples that.

    Wow, two hours left.

I'm betting somewhere around $300, no more. I just don't see a stupid box going into the thousands.

Edit: I take that back now.....

Given the recent turn of events I'm saying it'll reach at least $700.
