I am against locking old threads in general. As others have said, there can be a good reason why someone bumps it, it's not all just spammers. As for sales threads - I wouldn't have a problem with those being locked after 5 years. If a sales thread hasn't been maintained for 5 years, the seller will have forgotten/abandoned it anyway. Any discussion about it can be relocated to a different forum.
I'm against the automatic locking of threads as well. Sometimes, we have some new developers contributing new discoveries to an old thread. Locking the thread will mean that such information cannot be added on to the old thread easily. Allowing only the thread OP to unlock the thread for information to be added probably isn't a really good idea, especially if the thread OP was to... disappear. I feel that adding a warning against bumping old threads is probably the best solution.

That was a awesome morning laugh ! :very_drunk:
Just automatically Ban every new member who makes a thread or posts, that would make this a non issue.
Hahaha, long live the old school! :congratulatory: They'd never get 50 posts, and you know what happens at 50 posts! :livid:
If it's a sales thread then it should be locked. Actually I wish users could them self close out their sales threads after completed. I've seen a few necro bumped even though there is a post from the seller saying it's sold. =/ Information threads can be tricky but really if it's a done/dead end discussion and the person who is necro bumping said thread adds nothing then i'm all for (as a mod) just purging their post. Hell if you guys give me a heads up over users like this I tend to start looking into their post history and purge other post that are just necro bumping threads. =)
Is that just not possible at all with the current setup? I'm relatively new to forums in general. It does sound like a grand idea though!
Truthfully I don't know or remember. I know on most forums you can but nobody ever does it here. Assembler would better know if it can be done. Either way, If a user does wish to close out their sales threads they're more then welcome to MSG me to close it for them. =)
Noted! Many thanks! And it looks like the "No" team has taken the lead! Can they maintain their pace? Will the "Yes" team come back and claim victory? :congratulatory:
I see it's tied now. Personally I think it should be locked and if someone needs to add something new, they should make new thread and post the link to old thread as reference.
problem with that being you end up with 20 threads about the same thing, which is hella confusing when searching for info. finding a thread that links to another thread but the other thread is ass old and has dead links or old info etc.
I like 20 threads, spot on with the dead links though. That's why new threads need to me made. For example, my Sophia repairs were my own repairs so they got their own thread. Yet I used information from other Sophia related threads. I say the more the merrier for that type of thing. I wouldn't go bumping an old Sophia thread where the OP has disappeared out of respect for that thread. And yep we're locked at 50 / 50 again. We need some fresh blood to break the tie! :suspicion:
I voted yes. Silly recent example of this: http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...-RAREST-game-console-related-non-retail-items At the same time I do agree a bit with Yakumo though. Somebody may be adding new information to an informative thread, a release maybe? New info surfaces at random intervals... But yeah... Things like sales Lol
Hmm, can we add another option to the poll or is it way too late. Looks like a line has been drawn in the sand and no one can win. It was a good battle and both sides fought well.
