    As a new member maybe my view doesn't really count, but on a forum that concentrates much more than others on retro games /old prototypes etc, I think it's silly to close threads.
    I think it will simple mean that anyone with new information won't bother and new, disjointed threads will pop up all over the place.

    The lock with the OP able to reopen is interesting. First you are assuming that the OP is still around after 5 years.
    Second you are assuming the OP is worthy enough to make what I see as a moderator level decision.

    The way I see it, it would end up falling to the already busy mods to manage..

    Tbh, this happens simply because the 50 post rule is a poor (but understandable required) solution to a very real problem. Find a better way around people registering just to sell and there will be no reason for new members to bump old threads...
