Some people are claiming this is a fake. But considering it's now listed on Play-Asia, that may not be the case. Just have to wait and see, I suppose.
If I get it right, it will play NeoGeo AES/MVS games not NGP/NGPC games, am I correct? The desing is very similar to the psp, I think a psp with a mame emulator will do the same.
It has been clearly stated....well,....everywhere that if this thing is legit it is a flash drive based portable that will be playing Neo Geo ROM (as in MVS) games, not NGP(C). And while the design is reminiscent of a PSP it's more of a straight rip-off of the Iphone 4 (which I am sure that is what they are going for due to the 4's popularity, image & appeal).
oh ... here it is allready for sale: http://www.ebay.de/itm/4GB-Wireless...0819972449?pt=DE_Konsolen&hash=item19cd629561 just slam on a NEOGEO sticker just a fake ;(
It would appear that this is actually real. It is designed by SNKP, but the manufacturing is being outsourced. I beleive it's the same company that makes the SupaBoy portable SNES clone. The device is planned for a late March/early April release. Tommo has the U.S.A distribution rights, Blazepro is handling the Asian release and in Europe it's BigBen Interactive. The US release isn't set in stone though, and I would imagine this is the case for Europe too. Hopefully it'll show up on Amazon UK for pre-order within a month so BBI can gauge interest. I'll be putting an order in with Play-Asia just in case, but I'd rather support a localised release.
Blaze's GameGadget was delayed by a couple of months, which has affected the release of this. I'll be surprised if its out by the end of summer to be honest.
I agree with this assumption. I sent an email asking James Cooper (Blaze Founder) wether the machine would be coming out at all and I was reassured it will be. He said he is now working on the NEOGEO X project but could not state a release date or price, which obviously I didn't expect to be told. Totally excited about this and cannot wait and I am still surprised by the apathy of many.
I hope they make an online store where you can buy neo geo games for it. Being able to play games like Pulstar, KoF '98, Fast Striker, Top Hunter: Roddy and Cathy, and Garou: Mark of the Wolves on a portable would kick so much ass its not even funny. They should also release neo geo pocket games on it. It would give a lot of people who missed out on it a chance to play those games.
I think they may have some 'plans' for the console but as to what they may be I am not sure. I do think they will allow purchase of additional games through a store similar, if not the actual one, as the gamegadget set-up. However I don't think the SD card slot will be able to accept Roms from your own 'collection' as this would make potential sales through legitimate purchases almost non existent. I certainly won't mind paying for them as long as its not extortionate they are great fun but many are 20 years old and are simply the same Roms you could 'aquire' for free. I am sure they have thought about it all and have a strategy for additional games. I am still looking forward to this!
I still really hope that SNK (and possibly other companies) decides to support this with original games. Why else would they put a wide screen on it? Neo geo games only need a 4:3 screen...
