I found an OG Xbox listed for sale and they claim "never used". Ummmmm...is there anyway to determine that? Is there an internal usage clock for hours of use or something?
It wouldn't be out of the box in the first place. If it was taken out, then it'd be the bag, since the bag is taped up usually. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to tell.
Well that's just it. I'll do a close visual but that's why I asked if there was somewhere I could browse the unit to find some kind of initial start up date or life clock.
The OG Xbox forgets the time after so many hours if it isn't plugged in... if the clock cap has gone bad (many have gone bad by now after 10+ years) it won't remember the time at all. Basically, the clock won't tell you anything about whether it's been used or not. Is it still in the box?
Apparently a brand new system should prompt you with the Language and Setup screen according to this link: http://home.comcast.net/~admiral_powerslave/serialeeprom.html A never before used system should have partially 0'd EEPROM, but you'd have no real way of testing this without opening it to read its EEPROM, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of getting a never before used system in the first place.
Is it in the box? The box is there but it's been opened. So if the seller meant barely used instead of never used then I'm still interested. Looks like it'll come down to the physical appearance and a keen eye. If it works without glitching or freezing I'll bite. From the numbers on the bottom of any given unit, can you determine what model the DVD ROM is? I prefer NOT to have another unit with the Thompson.
Only by turning on the system I think. Certain revisions are more likely to have certain drives, but no guarantee
Usually around 2001 (depends if NTSC) Thompson, 2002 Philips/Thomson. 2003-2005 Samsung, Philips V2, or Hitachi LG. You can usually tell by the art on the box too. However like Borman said, sometimes old parts are in newer systems. You could possibly tell by lifting up one of the rubber feet. If black screws are used, it's <1.6 system.
A complete joke. The moron claimed she didn't know how to hook up an Xbox....then once I plugged in the TWO cables she then claimed to not know how to switch her massive big screen tv input. Regardless....there was no need to switch input on the tv since the Xbox tray wouldn't even open. What a waste of oxygen this idiot was. It's a wonder she was able to figure out how to open the front door of her apartment let alone put one foot in front of the other in order to walk to the door. Next stop....another unit for sale. A clear model. Hopefully that leans towards the DVD ROM being the later Samsung or Phillips model. Hopefully they are able to hook it up which saves me from wasting another 15 seconds that I'll never get back.
Are you claiming that the person was pretending to not know how to hook it up because you think they already knew that something was wrong with it (like the tray not opening up)?
The drawer not opening is no big deal really, you just drop the drive belt into a cup of boing water and that shrinks it back / usually gets it working again, personally I find the boot sales are the best place to pick up old xboxs, basically the dealers don't want them as they are too heavy to post reasonably and the owners more than likely have a 360 or one at home and they don't plan to take it back at the end of the day.
