fingerprint detecion? ;-) And NuonGamer: I disagree, I have some very sturdy Philips equipment, I have yet to come across a CD-i with knackered laser assembly and I have a 15-year-old Philips TV sitting on my desk here, I found it on the street (in the snow!) and it's still going strong... ah well...
Well Wizards Of The Coast bought TSR out(the makers of D & D, and the predessors) among other stuff, and they also got the license to make Pokemon cards, and the only bestseller they have made by them self is Magic The Gathering. And I don´t know if Whitewolf is owned by WOTC now. But that could be the reason why they changed the name of Jihad (a TCG by Whitewolf, in the world of darkness) to Vampire The Eternal Struggle. So of what I understand, the only succes WOTC has, is that they have bought other companies, and scored some big money out of it. And what saved WOTC from bankrubtsy (sp?) was that the Pokemon TCG became a big succes. Remember I am not bashing you, and I hope you understand that. I am just poiting out some facts about WOTC. And I am an old pen and paper RPG fan, and I have played some different RPG´s like "Toon" "Wraith The Oblivion" "Vampire The Masquerade" "Paranoia" (real funny RPG by the way), and some others too. And I like Steve Jacksons old Fighting Fantasy games, and the likes. Yes I know Steve Jackson is a part of Games Worksshop Heck even Dragons and Demons (Drager og Dæmoner). A Swedish RPG. and lots of other stuff.
It sounds like we are agreeing, but you gave more details. The board game market is dying and I don't see how this philips product will be seen as a viable purchase to consumers considering the possible high prices.
Amazingly it has the 1 thing I think the DS should have had. A touch screen that reconises more then 1 imput point (ds just point samples all points and gives an average like most touch screen devices do).
Maybe they just keep their good products in Holland ^_^ Then again my uncle had a Philips TV set for about 24 years - that was good going. It only had 8 channel buttons (despite there being about 14 non-encrypted channels on cable here by the end of its life), but it worked. Our Philips TV just blew up after 10 years -_-
well it said its aimed at places like bars and such, so the price tag is understandable, id say this will probably be put in more sophisticated places, and will charge like a certain fee to play an hour or day, say 10 an hour.
Trauma Center:Under the Knife Extreme!!! I would love to play that on this thing. "OK!!! Preform Operation!!!"
Nah, they would need something with less coordination for bars, say a "Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball: Touch & Go Edition"...
