Another update, apparently this enables the highest fidelity audio mode and also changes the PSN store to a much better interface. However, of real note to me is the new Lair add-on. it's free, adds 2 new dragons but best of all it enables dualshock3 and analogue stick control (instead of motion sensing). And it makes it much better! This game really kicks ass now. :love2:
The analog support sucks balls, since again, not all moves are mapped to traditional controls and u still have to rely on the accelerometeres, making it a better yet still shitty experience Pitty too, because I love Factor 5 and I love dragons !
I'm having a devil of a time figuring out how to ram people, that meelee attack is weird to get the hang of.
I guess it'll be better to rent it first, as it seems they haven't managed to really fix the game's control.
Have you actually played the game with the new controls? Or are you just repeating something you read? You can't map all the controls of the dragon to one stick. The main issue was with the steering of the dragon and lack of crosshair. This update fixes those problems. I would definitely rent this game first Crescent as it takes time to get used to and it is not everyone's cup of tea.
I tried it yesterday actually, along with unreal tournament, both rented from a nearby videostore - I was also dissappointed that UTIII has NO split-screen Multiplayer so we finally used the PS3 to watch a movie
It seems it'll have a "limited" mod support, as Epic plans to select the best mods (in their opinion) and publish them on Live. It seems it won't be as free as the PC/PS3 version though, and it'll leave out all content with copyright issues. I was planning on renting both UT3 (to try the online features) and Lair, as I have a couple of free rentals from a previous purchase in the shop.
I'll probably get Lair despite what I've heard. Hell, I tolerated Drakengard 1 and 2 because I really like Dragons.
The first level or two are a bit slow but the game picks up a lot, especially once you get used to the steering (it is sensitive).
FYI, anybody in the US interested in Lair should check their local Target store. I picked it up last week for $30 on clearance. I've heard that some stores have it for $45 though, so call ahead to make sure of their price.
They should have made a Rogue Leader remake, with the same graphics, ships and levels, new (and unnecessary) Wii control, just like the one in Lair, and perhaps some online mode if they felt generous. It'd have sold like ten times better than Lair :icon_bigg Now seriously, I don't think it was a matter of quality but of sales, and mixing a new franchise, a small base of machines and weird motion control is not a good idea. Nice game, (I expected a bit more from it tbh). Got to finish it one of these days.
I personally like the new PSN Store; I think it's a huge improvement from the previous web-based store and more intuitive to navigate, but it still has lots of room for further innovation. I'd like to see what Home is like, if Sony will ever get around to opening it up soon. -SK
Which has the analog control option already in it btw. Tried it, didn't wow me exactly... I kinda like the new PSN store, at least it's an improvement over the mess the former one was.
Ok figured out the meelee. Seems not everything is mapped to analogue. I'm not getting any rumble though. I know my rumble works as it does work in the MGO Beta at the start screen it's gives you a little nudge.
Agreed.. the new store is MUCH easier to navigate (ie quicker).. but there is always room for further inprovement (more content!!)
