Everyone has to start somewhere But may be better as just game related and fees look a lot cheaper than fleabay http://www.videogameauctions.co.uk/index.php
looks alrighty to me but whats up with that auction count? theres a total of 19 auctions on the whole page. i'd want to create some user accounts and put at least 100 auctions or so online before i launch the site if i was trying to start up an auction site. if theres nothing there, nobody will bother to create new auctions, either. i think its a nice idea but i somehow doubt it'll take off at all.
The site is still in beta, Im one of the people behind it. No site will take off unless people embrace it and stop falling into a comfort zone and accepting very high fees and charges for an established service. We set it up to cater specifically for anything videogames related and offer what ebay don't, People were annoyed with many aspects of ebay and the reluctance and ignorance they show to removing warez and pirate software as they don't seem to understand or instantly notice things that are wrong. This site will not tolerate people selling pirate items, This is going to be a service by gamers for gamers. Some changes will happen from now until the start of June as its not finalised, But technically the site is fully working so if anyone wants to sign up please feel free. Imports and development items are all fair game and there is no chance of any auctions of that type being removed.
Hey Kron I`ve registered and used my office e-mail address but haven`t had an e-mail yet to activate it?
hmm the whole .co.uk may scare off alot of north american users, Why not a simple .com Or do you not care and are only really servicing UK customers ?
.com was already taken (allthough we are in the process of possibly buying that domain from the owners).
Just signed up. I'll be flogging my Sega Mark III stuff soon so I may give your new place a try Kron. Yakumo
Once more people know about it may be a good site to sale dev items since ebay seems to pull most of them
Initially the site is geared towards the UK market as its what we know and will be advertising for, When the site becomes more popular we will add some options for customisable currency and conversion. Allthough when setting up an auction for sale we do allow the option to list in any currency the seller wishes.
So I can post items and request dollars only, say I'm shipping from the US, we rule the world, fuck Iraq, and all that shit? (Minus the last two of course)
Yes you can You're more than welcome mate, I'd recommend you wait until next month when the site will be fully live and advertised. I hope everyone enjoys it and the features we plan to impliment.
Just my two cents --- you ever thought of only charging listing fees in the event that the item sells? I would assume that you'll get more listings that way in the beginning considering the site is unheard of thus far.
At the moment all listing charges are free whether items sell or not. This is for the very reason you mention, to get people to register and post auctions with absolutely no finanical risk whatsoever. Post an auction for free, if it doesn't sell in a week, just press relist. Also I'd like to thank you guys for not dissing the idea before it's even got off the ground. We believe it is something the marketplace needs and that gamers deserve. Perhaps development specific sub categories could be added in the future if you feel it would be beneficial. This is my first visit here and I cant believe some of the stuff you guys have and chat about. I'm looking forward to having some input here, with my limited knowledge of dev material and I have feeling I may make the odd purchase as I have a tendency to like the odd oddity (if you get my meaning)
Did I miss something on the free listing fees? How lon will this run as I have a LOAD of stuff to get rid of but I am on holiday for 2 weeks from next week-end :-( Welcome to the site by the way......and I see a few more auctions have popped up. Perhaps you could link to ASSEMbler But I see the NEX-GEN logo......what happened to the stores........as they all seemed to have closed down?
Free listing = good start. I've usually got a for sale list and I will post some stuff there to donate to the cause. I do agree it's something we need. Dethroning Ebay on any front will be hard. You've got your work cut out for you, but I always root for the underdog.
