Thanks for the correction on the size thing. I thought Photoshop might be the culprit... but then I thought Nintendo would do better than that.

Now that I understand what you're talking about, isn't the Revolution supposed to be compatible with Gamecube controllers? Maybe that plastic covers the controller ports.

Nah, it cant be. The covers are like little doors on the side of the console, nothing as big as the thing you can see on the picture.

It is the little rectangular opening on the front for sure, now we only need to know what goes in this opening. It seems like something you would remove and not replace once you did, i doubt its for sd cards. im pretty sure its the dvd add-on they were talking about. they said it would be internal, and all, so that could make sense, but it could be something else too..

    anyway.

hehe, that would be sweet. :)

If the system is going to accept GC discs as well as standard DVD discs and be a slot loader, then steadster is right that there would have to be two slots. However, cahaz is right that Nintendo wants the Revo to be cheap, so I think it will be a tray loader. Putting a small disc into a slot loader is not fun because the small disc can't feed onto the spindle inside just right.

Also, a slot loader on a console is a BAD idea, and I hope Nintendo knows this. Trays are too, but apparently looking cool is better than extending the life of the system. Lord knows how many PS2s and Xboxes brought into Gamestop that I had to fish discs out of when the tray broke on them. Never had that problem with the GC or PSone.

Wait....doesnt the console use dvd for its games?..why would it need a hardware expansion for playback?..could'nt they do it through a download off of the nintendo service?..or would the hardware be for something like mpeg2 decoding?

quik question, this mysterious cover has no tabs on the outside, that would make it easlily removable,...unless you jam a scre driver in it maybe...that cover looks more like its inserted from within the faceplate, which looks like it would have to be removed that way also....anyone get what im saying?

    Um, custom faceplates?

Anyone else see the two angles on the face in the green and red cases. The prototype render is flat. That slot is very curious indeed, I never made that out in the renders before you guys pointed it out.

Perhaps it is the GC disk slot, but that would add too much to the cost and most likely be redundant.

Looks REALLY close in size to a standard PCMCIA/CardBus slot to me...

Wow, I've never seen that picture before Cahaz. I guess I'm out of ideas then.

It could be a bay to insert a detachable hard disk.

Thanks cahaz. Here's a pic I came across Google of the Revo next to the other next generation consoles. Looks like Nintendo is trying to make it as small as the early CD walkman.

PS3 will be roughly the same size as the PS2 (not slim model). the 360 is a bit bigger than the PS2 and a bit thicker too.

Hard disk sounds like an idea. I seem to remember someone (probably reggie) complementing MS on having a hard disk, saying it was something they were looking into on the revolution

I've got it! It's a credit card reader slot to pay for downloads or for when they switch us over to the pay-per-play model.

Last I heard the PS3 was going to be about the size of the old Xbox, so a fair bit bigger than the PS2.

Nope, single slot that takes both half and full sized discs. New design apparently, there was talk of it back at E3.

DVD Video playback licensing costs something like $20 per unit, paid to the consortium who came up with the standard.

    512mb of Flash internal reportedly.

I know about the .5gb of flash, but I was thinking it's possible that there will be a hard disk expansion. Get a bunch of late 64 roms and that .5gb will fill up quickly
