To celebrate the Hanshin Tigers finally winning a championship, Nintendo released a limited edition boxed set consoles in 2003.
In the set you got a specially pinstriped white gamecube, a Hanshin Tigers jersey, a Hanshin Tigers carry bag (was supposed to be used to carrry the console home), and a gameboy player. Luckily I got mine still in the transport box that it was shipped in and in ASSEMbler tradition, below cost. On the surface the console is a pleasing soft white plastic. The pinstripes unfortunately seem to be very thinly painted , and I would be afraid to rub them very hard. For some reason the bottom i/o port covers match the unit, but the gameboy player does not, however when docked to the unit it makes for an attractive pedestal for the unit, so it's not too bad. The controller is the standard black model with a simple hanshin logo. The real story is on top of the gamecube where we have a special jewel commemorating the hanshin win, which more than makes up for the plainess of the controller.

It is rumored that approximately 1000 or so of the Jersey+bag+system bundles were made. [Note: This number is based upon my source who was selling the bundles that the time, and is in no way an official number of bundles made, and does not reflect how many of the non bundle console were made or sold]. Too many collectors in the west slept on these with their unfamiliarity with Japanese baseball, and seemingly boring subject matter for the special edition. However, that will probably wind up biting them in the ass, as it's one sweet limited edition. With all the losable extras like the easily worn/used/discarded jersey, the carry home bag, and box, it seems to be a sure bet for the top ten of gamecube rarities.

Here are some more pics for you to look over:

Are the Hanshin Tigers a Baseball team?

It would look really slick if you switched the top jewel cover with a regular gamecube one.

You're right there. Down here they love Soft Bank Hawks (formaly Daiei Hawks). The odd thing is that I'm sure that Nintendo made a Daiei Hawks GBA or was I dreaming that?

I know they made a Giants one.

  15. Hanshin a-go-go, baby!

  16. Lying about production numbers seems to be the special skill of many Assembler forum members. Sadly, Assembler himself doesn't make a difference here... I am very disappointed.

This model is still avaiable in most bigger stores and on most auction sites in Japan. Even if you do not know how many units have been produced, a number of 1000 would sound very odd... A nice Gamecube special edition indeed, but far away from being a rarity.

Yeah, you sure know about Japan...

You know, if you don't like the forum, you don't have to come here.

It may just be me, but I found his post to be pretty rude.

  18. If it is too rude I will delete/edit it and apologize for sure.

But see, it should be the responsibility of great collectors like Assembler not to spread any false information. When it comes to limitation numbers of videogame systems and their special editions, there has been already great damage done by other well-known sites and their forums. You can read things like "golden dreamcast is 50 units", "Gold Dreamcast was made five times", "hanshin tigers is 1000", "d direct dreamcasts are 200 each", "64 DD 1000 produced"... I can go on and on. Sure, I can say nothing and all will live happily and believe these wrong & fake numbers... If that is what you want...

I quite like the forum. Don't let my previous posts get you the wrong opinion. What I don't understand: where do all these guys get these wrong production numbers from? The consequences are clear though: if you post something on boards like this one, there are many other people who will read it and they surely believe and tell others these false numbers too. You cannot stop it.
In this specific case, in the end everyone would be convinced: Hanshin Tigers model = 1000 units. You would read it in even more forums and on many other sites.

The real problem goes even deeper. Assembler is the forums owner, well-known and respected. I am a little fool, having only 30+ posts and am not respected! And we have the classic situation here: if Assembler responds and still pretends the number of 1000 is correct, all will believe him. That's why it was maybe stupid to start this whole mess... but now it's too late I guess. People like Assembler can misuse their power though. No one will question them. Maybe it is not important for 99% of the collctors if a limited console system was made 500 or 800 times. Maybe it doesn't make a difference. But I am speaking for the little 1% who really want to know about it. And they want the truth. What use has information about rare items if half of it is wrong? It is not only about the production numbers. Many other things I read are just wrong too. But if I do nothing more than just pointing out the errors and criticize people I will surely be banned from the boards forever.

I didn't meant to be rude. No offense here. All I would like to know is why Assembler all of a sudden needs to jump on the same train as many other people and post false production numbers. What does he get from that? Maybe it was just a typing error? I don't know it and maybe I am the only one who cares at all...

I understand where you're coming from.
Maybe Assembler read on another site that the production number was 1000. I don't know.

  20. Actually, the lack of respect comes not from your small amount of posts at all - no, the fact that you're not respected here is something you've earned on your own.

In case you aren't seeing where I'm going with this, do you think there could possibly be a better way to inform someone that their numbers are off than
    ??

If you were a regular poster, you'd know that all of us, even ASSEMbler himself, get our numbers on ANYTHING wrong from time to time, and others will easily - and POLITELY - call us on it: the horrible tyrannical force that silences dissenting voices that you allude to doesn't exist.
Of course, claiming that members are flat-out lying about something like production numbers but failing to provide either a correction or some semblance of an official source isn't going to earn you any high marks either - the phrase "taking out of your ass" could be applicable here.

Here's an idea - try phrasing a sentence like this: "I'm sorry Assembler, but I think that the production run of 1000 Hanshin Tigers Gamecubes is incorrect. According to -INSERT OFFICIAL SOURCE HERE- it is actually -CORRECT PRODUCTION NUMBERS-."

That wasn't too bad, was it?

Again, I reiterate - instead of accusing other members of lying, taking paragraphs to explain the woeful position of somehow being the only one who truely understands production numbers, and then moving into the grand finale with a stunning and tear-jerking "poor me, though I have the answer I will no doubt be frowned upon should I speak up" act, you could have just stated that it was an error, what the real production numbers are, gave some proof, and left it at that. Instead, you've probably pissed a few people off with your rudeness and done nothing to further your credibility.

On that note, weren't you the guy in the old board whose location was Japan yet the IP pointed to a university in Germany? I'm just wondering, as you seem to be quick on taking the liberty in questioning others' experience in Japan if it doesn't jive with your 'own'.
