Fortunatly, this is just EA's usual bullshit. However, a price hike would be EXTREMELY bad. Why? Games are already greatly overpriced, and I honestly don't want a repeat of the N64 era (Stores sometimes charging 60-80 bucks for a N64 game, well...At least in Tennessee it happened).

EA is stupid. If Sega can sell games for $20, and Sony's in-house games retail for $40, then EA can just stuff it.

I've had enough of EA's bullshit. They can take their games and stuff it--I'm not buying them any more.

Some N64 games cost £50 new over here :( But then again, Its actually cheaper for me to import games than it is to buy locally, lol.

It's not so much the price, as the principle of that it's fucking EA games announcing this "news."

Well when EA increases their prices, it will affect your prices too in other countries.

I mean about 9 out 10 games EA makes suck ass so from a business point of view of course they should charge more. Of course I dont like that idea. However, a better reason they would want to do that is because their sports games is what brings in most of the cash other than Sims because those games loose resell value immidiately after 3 months since they come out with a new one every year. Another reason is because of shops like Gamestop and EB. Those places make their money by selling used games as well as charging publishers "rent" space for where they can put the games on the shelf. But most of the money they make comes from selling used copies because thats 100% profit. Someday there will be a huge fight over this where publishers will still get some of that cash for whenever EB or gamestop sells a used copy. I think the RIAA tried the same thing.

screw those EA bitches. I havent bought a game from them since 007 Everything or Nothing. I never buy madden or their harry potter garbage. go ahead and sell games for $70 like nintendo did for the N64...that's why I sold it. I'm not paying that much for a game...ever.

by doing that, they price kids and college students out of games. I'd rather spend $70 bucks on other things like..well college stuff, not madden.

I seriously doubt people will buy madden each year when they pay $70 each time.

    No, official PAL games :angry

  11. If this really is what EA are planning, I just hope it doesn't have a knock-on effect causing other publishers to do the same. I mean, I couldn't care less what EA games were priced at... but if other publishers follow suit because of EA's little guesstimates....

PS2 games are already cost more than any other system in Japan. Hope Sony's trend doesn't catch on.

The average price of PlayStation 2 games here is about 68 euro... That's almost 90 dollars!

GameCube and Xbox games are a lot cheaper though, and you can do some great bargains when prices drop, but this is really outrageous.

I think pricedrops could be a strategical surplus in the future... ;)

EA's just going on a power trip.

They're under the impression they can do whatever they want, but their position isn't as good as they think it is. They're still very much limited to sports games, which large as a segment as it may be, is still a very defined segment. They don't have anywhere close to the monopoly needed to force prices upward across the industry.

If they do it, I think that they might still sell a $70 Madden game, but as for any other kind of title, people will just look at it and either pass it up entirely or wait for it to drop.

Just HOW MUCH does a DVD and a crappy black and white manual cost?

Man, are EA greedy or what...

Let's just hope the rest of american companies (and of course, consumers) don't take their crap and just boycott them.

Games are expensive enough down here when they're cheap in the states.

And these people want to STOP piracy by making original games unattainable for average consumers??

    Greedy bastards.

What pisses me off about it is how much it costs to produce the discs. Sure, there are various publishers fees and so on, but the materials all cost under $10 per game to produce (Depending on what comes with it, the console, and the colors used).

I am finally seeing what EA is doing right now: Forcefully taking out the competition, downsizing its own games to drive down the cost, buying the competition, jacking up the prices, and saying shit about the remaining competition. If that isn't a monopoly, then America has something wrong with it.

It costs about 70 cents to manufacture a DVD disc and probably less for the box and label. Manufacturing costs are a tiny percentage of the price of a dvd/game. This is purely EA being good capitalists. If they made any decent games I might care more.

It does cost money to create the games though. Not to mention product licensing, system licensing, advertising, ect. To get pissed that the materials cost only so much is a bit narrow minded.

Another thing I haven't seen mentioned, at least in the PS3's case is the fact that the system will be Blu-Ray. That alone will probably dictate a price increase since existing production plants can't currently produce them. EA might just be taking this into account.
