I really think this rumour is just extremely stupid.

if it was touchscreen only then I really hope not, i dont find touchscreens responsive enough for button intensive games, can't imagine playing Street Fighter etc on a touchscreen but from the looks of it they are saying the standard buttons will remain and the touchscreen will add additional functionality which i think is the best way to go about it, providing its responsive I like the idea as they can customise the touchscreen display to show any combination they wish, be happy to have a go either way

 

are they trying to make me go sony with all their might?

 

Main drawback is that Xbox 360 controllers are fucking expensive as is.... Do I really want to know how much these will cost to replace? No.

 

To be fair, I suppose putting a touch screen on the controller is the next logical step in adding value. There's an abundance of low power touch screens available now, it doesn't take a genius to decide to slap one in an Xbox pad.

Ever since the Dreamcast I've been expecting pads with colour LCDs, except it's really not been feasible until now, especially with everything going wireless.

 

Hmm current Xbox 360 wired controller is fine, the wireless would be too if they managed to lower the costs and/or extend battery life etc.

Rumors about the 360's architecture were going around long before it was officially revealed.

Wouldn't be surprised if some of them are true. Even if they're not, its fun to speculate.

People made fun of Nintendo for innovating and now everyone is copying them.

Think of your own ideas people.

We don't want to play ALL of our games with touch screen controls, nor crappy Motion Camera controls. Focus on making the actual games better with just a controller.

I'm still with GOH on this, another stupid rumour. Gametrailers posted this story on their facebook page, and I clearly said these rumours just don't need to be mentioned every week. No one is believing them, it's all a matter of gaining hits.

But really, this early on and they're already talking about screens on controllers. Since Microsoft said they won't release this console until 2013 or later means they can see how the Wii-U does right?

I can say to that, as games progress more inputs will be needed. However copying each other with this is just stupid. You can't copyright a screen ok sure, but how it's used can be copied.

WOW just goes to show how Asinine Next Gen rumors are now.

I honestly don't know if I'll still be gaming by the time the next round of consoles launch that is to say at least gaming on newer hardware.

 

This is simply not true and is counterproductive. Current control schemes are already at the limit of human working memory. Adding more controls, buttons, movements, etc. becomes increasingly detrimental to typical gameplay.

Of course, everyone sees something new and shiny like motion controls and touchscreens, so they have to copy it, gameplay and user experience be damned.

 

I say we ban any postings about news ont he nextbox UNTIL MICROSOFT ACTUALLY FUCKING SAYS SOMETHING
