Strangeness. I somehow for some reason stuck my copy of NiGHTS into my Hitachi HiSaturn - a UC-NTSC copy - and shockingly enough, it ran perfectly fine. No other non-JP game I tried did the same.

This is exceedingly strange. Anyone have the same experience/know the reason why/ know of other games that do this?

I have tried multiple copies of the game - both the NFS version from the boxset and the standalone one - and both boot normally on the JP unit, so I know it's not some freak copy of the game.

Damn, I wish I had a HiSaturn. How much did you pay for yours, and what model is it?

Well, I was wondering if it was the MMP-1 or MMP-11. A NaviSaturn would be nice too :smt023

I have a UK version of Saturn Virtua Racing which looks like a US Version of the game but will play in any Saturn. I also have the japanese release but I'm not sure if that works on a PAL or US Machine.

Oh, dunno. I'll check for your sake. ^_^

I dont think JP games wee made without region lockout but I could be totally wrong, as I'm judging this only on the fact that NiGHTS Jp is not multiregion.

    Multi-region Saturn games?

I've heard too that Virtua Racing has no territorial lock-out code, and I'm certain that NiGHTS is the same as well.

Sonic Team did not have time to properly complete their game, and as a result there are some versions that contain very interesting leftovers (though such a phenomenon is nothing new to MegaDrive fans - just look at how much remains in Sonic 2 from the beta version through hacking).

Right up until the very last minute there were plans for all of the single player levels to be available in the 2PVS mode of NiGHTS, though in the end only the NiGHTS VS Reala was left as a bonus feature. There are rumours that the earliest complete build of the game (and possibly some review copies) still contain these missing stages, though I have a retail copy that was purchased on the game's release date and I've found nothing like this before!

P.S. The same also happened with Burning Rangers - a preview in Sega Saturn Magazine (UK) showed the proposed 2PVS mode, though as with NiGHTS it was removed at a late point in development. I've heard that both the NiGHTS and BR multiplayer options were filled with bugs, rendering them virtually unplayable - maybe it's a good thing that they were removed, after all? Then again, if there was a bigger Saturn hacking scene it's possible that something could be found from these lost modes...

    *sigh*

Indeed, while playing Nights I always had the idea that there is some more stuff hidden in there (the A-life system that many people don't notice is a nice example). Perhaps, on an extremely long holiday, I will do some messing around with my PAR and PC-link :smt043

Anyhow, this issue of multiregion Saturn games has recently been addressed on SegaXtreme, too: http://www.phantasy-star-universe.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14138

It's odd that several games have the Taiwan country code in addition to others...

Well it's not that important. I was just wondering because I have never seen an MMP-11 for sale, only MMP-1 models. :)

I tried three times at the Sonic Team screen but no special sound yet... :smt009
I did check several websites and they all list the code so it's probably there, one website even mentioned playing all stages in 2P with the debug mode! Dont know if that is true though...

It all sounds too good to be true, if you know what I mean. It seems that many people have tryed it but none have gotten it to work. Sounds like bull. But people will still try just on the off chance that it may work.
