I recently acquired a Nintendo 3DS "Panda" Development Unit. I can't find a whole lot of information about it and certainly can't put a value on it.

    Can anyone help at all?

There's a little bit of knowledge around the units.

I know a few people here have some info but as to how much they can share I'm not sure.

    Now I'm intrigued.

I guess I need to wait for these people to hopefully see my thread and reply.

    Thanks for your reply!

Not sure I agree with you here but yeah, anyone using one now is under an NDA

Remembered I had found some info and had to retrace my steps to find this page. Has a tiny bit of info for you.

@albert83 Nintendo development portal is open to everyone now that wants to and you can purchase from Nintendo for a non marked up price. I've signed up and started developing for 3DS with Unity. I haven't purchased any developer hardware(I use custom firmware on retail).

    https://developer.nintendo.com

Edit: Maybe worth the mark up to not sign the NDA or have the console serial linked to you if you want to sell

What info are you after? If it's just a price guide, this should be in the price check forum.

Please stop spamming this question everywhere anyone mentions Panda. Read the rules - post your own WTB thread!

It's only useful for play testing, the difference between the flash carts and retail.

It's not terribly special looking or useful.

Boxed it's going to be worth a heck of a lot more.

is not my intention start to dev to the 3ds or sell games.
im looking for 1 panda unit only for my personal 3ds collection. i have many kind of 3ds model (from original D1 model, XL ,N3ds, from japanese to NA and EU version) including a dummy 3ds model and a kiosk edition. i miss the fhlashcard cartridge (both models) and a test unit (its special because have a red sideplate + red switch on a side screen + specific back label). but its very hard to find.

Some testing units can also look like standard blue 3DS. There where used during events to show games to journalists. Some of these units has been sold recently on ebay. About the flashcards, I didn't knew they got 2 different ones. If I remember right, there is only one Flashcart model available on the Nintendo development portal.

But Anyway, as @retro said, read the rules before asking for a 3DS. You can post a Want to Buy thread in the related section.

I have ordered a Panda unit from the Nintendo Developer Portal, not particularly expensive either and it was all boxed, brand new and 100% above board so it is definitely something to look into if you are desperate for one.

Applying non original firmware on any Nintendo development stuffs (even retail stuffs), moreover if you have applied to the Nintendo development portal is not allowed and you can have some serious troubles. And we don't need these troubles here.

An please, don't hack someone else post like this. Feel free to create your own thread if you want to discuss a such topic.

And feel free to thanks people when they gave you links you were asking.

Edit : I am not looking to be rude, like any of us. We are just very careful when it comes to stuffs that can be seen as piracy/hacking.

You can just develop with Unity on a regular 3DS with Luma firmware using simple CIA convertor to the file unity gives you.

If you have a Panda unit you may as well figure out how to run it without using custom firmware by following Nintendo Development website, pretty sure that the better way to go as that's what it's for.

Edit:Rename the Unity file to .3DS so simple CIA convertor sees the file

Umm. I am so confused, why would anybody want to install cfw on a test kit. You run a high risk of bricking the unit as the firmwares are not entirely identical. If you want to check homebrew then just buy a used 3DS for practically nothing and hack that instead. Or better yet, if the hb is open source just rebuild/port it with the real sdk and use the test kit how it was intended.
