From http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/06/22/nintendo-reveals-3ds-xl During its Nintendo Direct broadcast tonight, Nintendo revealed a new version of the 3DS featuring larger screens. The system will be called 3DS XL in the West and will retail for $199.99. It will be released on August 19th. The system's top screen is 4.88 inches, giving an extra 90% view area. The lower screen is now 4.18 inches, also providing an extra 90% view area. The new 3DS will have longer battery life, but an AC adapter won't be included with the system in order to keep costs down (it will be available for purchase separately). Adapters from previous Nintendo hardware will be compatible. The system will be released in two colors (red or blue) when it launches in August. (no AC adaptor? what in the world?)
No 2nd analog stick either? it's not even funny how out of touch Nintendo is what what gamers want My last nintendo system was a DS lite and I think it will remain my final piece of Nintendo hardware for the rest of my days
The Super Famicom in Japan had no PSU with it either because Nintendo thought Everyone would own the Famicom and therefore not need another PSU. Or was that the AV cable? I'm lost. Anyway, who didn't see this coming. Bloody Nintendo and their hardware "upgrades". Yakumo.
Alright, I think we all knew Nintendo was going to release a 3DS revision. That's no surprise. But no second analog stick? You've only got one design flaw with your system, one which was kinda fix with an awkward looking add-on. Then when you make a hardware revision of that system, you DON'T fix what was wrong with it despite there being high demand and plenty of room on the machine to do so? Morons...
So, Nintendo aren't including an AC adaptor to keep costs down, but I have to pay increased costs to charge the 3DS? Seems kind of a counter intuitive strategy, unless of course Nintendo's core audience with this console is people who already own a 3DS! Anyway I saw this coming the moment they announced the system being the reason I still haven't bought one. No surprise about a second analog though, they just released the CPP, they want you to buy that too! Saying that the CPP probably wont even fit.
No, you're right - the SFC came without AC-adaptor. But that's nothing compared to the NEW Famicom AV - it came without ac-adaptor AND without video cable LOL. Just a box with console + controllers, wtf!
i might get interested if the batteries will last around 5 hours and if something worth playing comes out. I won't buy another battery-short handheld.
No AC Adapter in Japan. Maybe in the US? This system will be better for those with large hands. And I could really care less about a second analog stick. Few games need it for camera control. And ones that are smartly designed use the touch screen with a stylus like Kid Icarus. ALSO: If it had a second analog nub it'd probably just be an awkward mess to use like the PSVita. Because they'd probably have to make buttons smaller than they already are. The PSP had good facebuttons for camera control. The reason IMO it doesn't work as well on the 3DS is because the buttons are too small. Bigger screens =/= better picture though. Because resolution will likely be the same. Which means pixel density is lower. It'll likely be better for older folks and people with eyesight issues maybe?
Since this has been announced there is a likely chance that someone is drawing up plans for one of those 2nd control stick add ons that was made for the 3DS if so this will be the biggest handheld since the Atari lynx 2 ? lol
Erm... does the Wii-U have a 3D-screen yet? I can see where this is going, resulting in something like a portable Wii3-UDS mongrel... If they make it NGC-compatible, I'll get me one :stupid:
Won't the addition of a second analog be Nintendo's key feature for the inevitable next revision of the 3DS after the XL? They've got to keep the money rolling in somehow!
No 2nd thumb stick is unforgivable, they are so out of touch with the market and their customers. It's no wonder the company is making heavy losses.
I'm mixed over the new unit. I like my toys but I think the finish makes it look a bit cheaper then the old unit and the lack of a second stick is a huge mistake for me. Umm... WHAT?!?! There is tons of freaking space on this unit, they wouldn't have to shrink the buttons to get a second stick in there. Just move the buttons down and put the stick above it. Also I don't care what others say, RE:R is soo much better with the frakenstick add on. As well having a stick doesn't take away from what the system already has (you'd still get stuff like KI).
WTF? wheres the second analog? do I have to pay for one of those tumor-esque addons too? BTW 4" screen with subvga res, me no likey.
