Exactly the graphics on that large a screen are definitely going to show the limitations of the hardware. Sure it has better graphics then the wii but that large a screen is getting into vita territory and it can't compete at all graphically with that system. The DS XL came out pretty late for the DS so people were already comfortable with the graphics and knew it wasn't a powerhouse. Creating an upscaled 3DS version this quickly will do more harm than good at least in arguments about how visually the games look.
The DSiXL was great. This will be fine. Im looking forward to it, other than the shitty color choices we will get.
Allegedly, the DSIXL sold quite well. Love the subtle redesign, since I think the standard 3DS is ugly compared to the original DSLite. Interesting that it has better battery life. I guess another revison could be possible in the future for the standard sized 3DS with the battery improvements. I don't think the Circle Pad Pro will amount to much. Sony did not include some sort of second analog stick on the PSP even tough all their ports needed it, and I don't see Nintendo splitting the userbase with a new revision that does include it as a standard. I think the 3DS needs it, but I don't see how it could be done now.
I think the XL is a nice design... but I still wouldn't get one. At least this is getting the screen closer to the vastness of the Vita's, shame the resolution really doesn't compare.
I don't feel like spending a lot of time writing this, so I'll be brief. I don't see the point of a larger 3DS; I thought the DSi XL was a stupid idea too. Why would you take a system designed for portability and make it less portable? The 3DS doesn't need 2 circle pads. I have 6 3DS games and they all control very well (whatever other faults they might have), and don't suffer for lack of a second analog pad. Anything that a second analog pad could do can be done with the touchscreen, with the exception of 3rd and 1st person shooters. The 3DS has a stunning lack of the shitty FPS games that are so common to other consoles. I don't think it needs more. Also, I expect different kinds of games on a handheld than I would on a console, and in my opinion those kinds of games don't require a second analog stick. Remember that the original Game Boy only had a d-pad, 2 face buttons, and a start and select button.
Personally, I prefer larger screens. I don't take my PSP or DS with me out in public for numerous reasons, so I like the idea of having a larger one to use since I'm playing it mostly at home. The problem is that the games were built with the smaller screen in mind, so lots of games will probably look worse than they do with the original screen. I don't have a DSI XL so I'm not claiming that as a fact, but I have heard numerous complaints about the issue. As for the second stick, well... yeah, it is needed. The reason the original Gameboy didn't have something similar was because 2d games don't need it. 3d games generally need something to control the camera, and the gyroscope and touchscreen just don't work well enough to warrant the absence of a right stick. If Nintendo didn't realize this, then why did they make the circle pad pro?
The fact that they've announced an XL model is beyond me, especially since the 3DS is so heavily marketed as a portable, social handheld console. I understand Nintendo may be targeting people who will solely use a 3DS at home and not in public but it seems like such a rushed and sloppy excuse for some extra cash. Poor move, Nintendo.
XL is for the older generation of gamers... You won't really see kids with an XL system but you'll see mature adults with the larger model.
I think Metroid Prime Hunters and Moon were just fine as FPS on the DS...tough it could get a bit difficult at first to learn the control scheme, but soon as you did, they played very well. So if developers are dying to put FPS on the 3DS, they just have to copy that design, but I guess not even Nintendo wants a sequel to Hunters.
Am I the only one who thinks this doesn't matter? SNES was lower resolution than DS and no one would have a problem playing it on a 60" TV. I think the larger screen would be great, but I don't think I'll trade up until/unless I start buying a lot of 3DS games.
What I'm interested to know is if the 3D effect will be any better on this new screen, such as viewing angle or clarity, if so it may be more satisfying to play, in 3D.
I agree with geluda, I don't use the 3D effect at all while using the 3DS because it's a task to keep it at a good viewing angle. If the XL model improves the screen in some way then it might be worth a purchase.
Wont be getting this as I dont like 3D that much and there is no second analog stick which every one was looking for.
