I noticed that as well. Can't say I'm excited about the new art-deco design scheme, but then again the original DS was a pretty hideous too. The SP was probably the best design from a form and function standpoint that Nintendo has ever put out save for that kiddie-sized D-Pad they got into the habit of using during the early GC era.
I also noticed this... where is the power putton.. has it been placed on the edge of the system (bottom) like the GBA? Also from the pictures it appears that the xyab buttons are a little larger the in the original DS.. and the digital pad + looks to be better.. but its hard to tell from just one pic. Also note the difference in the Hinge from the orginal version... I like the re-design... but it does seem a little soon in the DS life..
They won't take out the GBA slot. would mean the pretty new rumble pack and the band brothers expansion won't work
Loads of news sites are confirming that the lite does play GBA games. Eg, 1up - "For starters, the new DS Lite will continue to play GBA games as well; some users have already expressed concern that the GBA slot might have been removed from the new design in order to save money, but we can confirm that this is not the case"
BTW the band expansion is a great way of adding extra content to ds games. In this case you get a whole bunch of new songs for a great game with a cheap add on via the gba port. Another good example is in phoenix wright, if you have played the original and just want the new content you just put in the original GBA cart and you can skip through the game to the last ds exclusive chapter. I would like to see more game use the GBA port for expansion stuff. And also lets not forget play-yan.
That's sound like a new way for nintendo to get money from crap. Honestly, you hear game music from the DS? that's barely better than the Snes audio, unless some developers start using actual music like Rare did with BFD in the N64. And the extra levels, well that is cool, but it would be cooler if you could download them...
damn, i hate nintendo for thei handheld business.... Gameboy => Gameboy Pocket, GBA => GBA SP, DS => DSlite grrrr
Shadowlayer- seeing as on the old DS you would need somewhere to store the extra levels/tracks/whatever, you would either need blank carts to download to (risking piracy) or do as they are right now. Because of the production of the carts - nintendo are hardly going to give it away for free. So I am not quite so cynical, especially when the band brothers add on is quite cheap anyway. (and features licensed music) Oh and I listen to my DS with headphones quite good IMHO. And I have a very solid number of Superfamicom ost, (and stuff way earlier than that as well) so I guess I just like that kind of music! N64 as well put out some quality music - just look at the eva game, very high quality indeed. For the record the sound output with play-yan is actually quite high as well.
K, I didnt want to critizise you or what you do, is just that I've my critics towards nintendo and their bussines plans.
Indeed, we are all allowed our own opinions and likes and dislikes. I personally admire nintendo for updating their hardware over the years, even if it costs the avid gamer more money. While some say - "why didn't they get it right the first time?", I like the way they admit their designs could be better and use that to open their devices to new markets. This redesign will probably be compared to the ipod to a great extent, and may appeal to new people. It is just good business sense. And if that means I get a better way of playing on my beloved DS, then I am all for it.
The new design is kinda cool cuz they did what I was saying: reduce the space between screens and controls/speakers. I have other ideas too, but those should be implemented before launch. For example, a bigger upper screen with QVGA and the touchscreen positioned exactly were the ABXY buttons are. This would allow for customizable buttons and a top-notch array for FPS games:dance: Other modifications would be a standart MP3 player, a bigger processor and future support for Divx and more graphical capabilities. But since the thing has been out for more than a year........
Huzzah! Huzzah! I waited and waited, knowing that they'd do it eventually...and they did! I came so close to buying a DS at Christmas too! I'll be getting this ASAP!
get a psp. edit: am i the only one that is worried that it may feel a bit cheap because they wanted to make it too small? its just an image, but it does look a bit cheap from what i've seen so far, but thats my opinion. i'd still like to own that one:
I like the new design because it vaguely resembles the E3 version, which was infinitely better looking than the current version. Oh well, one more thing to buy...
The PSP doesnt have a touchscreen:110: The shiny white plastic is way more classy than that el-cheapo one with metallic paint the normal DS has. The prototype? the one that everybody said "it sucks" at E3 2004? k........
get a zodiac then. And the e3 version is looking old-school, wich is, in my world, cool. And im also speaking as a collector. The DS lite also look more like a dual game and watch.
I want one. The one thing I dont like about the DS is the size. I got mine at launch and the hinge is kinda loose. Makes it hard to adjust for optimal viewing.
