Yup! It tries to get online and check for updates as soon as you start the game.

After asking about 30 gamestop employees about DS kiosk demos I finally found a store manager that knew what I was talking about. He said this one was useless and let me have it for free!

This cart is different from the other Legendary distribution I have as you can see from their codes. I believe this one holds Shiny Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina(whatever the hell those are..)

Is there any way to diferentiate it from the regular Legendary cart?

 

From the front only the codes are different but the rear sticker of this cart reads "ASSET #xxxx" and the other legendary distro reads "NOT FOR RESALE GAMECARD #xxxx"
