animal crossing coming as an app, seems strange considering they are developing a new console

Nintendo is working on two new smartphone apps based on Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem. They'll be released in the fall and take different approaches to their respective franchises. Fire Emblem, for instance, is normally a tactical role-playing game, giving you control of a small anime army as it battles through difficult skirmishes. Nintendo says the mobile version will be a "more accessible" take that still offers "great value."

Animal Crossing, on the other hand, is a casual franchise about living in a carefree village and furnishing a beautiful home. Nintendo describes its upcoming smartphone app as a "connected" experience with "the world ofAnimal Crossing" on consoles. It's not clear, however, if this is a reference to a new Animal Crossing game, or existing titles like New Leaf, Happy Home Designer and Amiibo Festival. "By playing both Animal Crossinggames, users will find increased enjoyment," Nintendo hints.

Both series are popular on Nintendo's handheld systems, making them ideal for the smartphone treatment. They'll join Miitomo, a new app which the Japanese company launched in March. The game is based loosely onTomodachi Life, asking you to create a Mii and answer seemingly mundane questions. Responses are shared with all of your followers, and subsequent hearts and comments are rewarded with the app's in-game currency. These coins can be used to buy new clothes and improve the player's style ranking. A final "Miifoto" feature lets you dress up your Mii and snap silly photos, using any image in your phone's camera roll as a background.

The app has already accrued 10 million users and over 20 million Miifotos. That's impressive given the cut-throat nature of the App Store and Google Play, and bodes well for the game's ability to generate revenue. If Nintendo can find similar success with Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing, it'll keep investors quiet while it works on its new NX console for March 2017.

Yes, two apps have been "annouced" based on two main IPs.

About the animal crossing app, it sounds more like a mitomo style app.

But as they said in their meeting, they don't want to simply port their games on smart device as they think that the feeling isn't the same and gaming has a big part of feelings.

I do agree with them about the feeling thing, as I play smart device games sitting on the toilets but I play handheld hardware in more confortable places haha.

Last news about the unit :

In an interview with Gamespot, Nintendo says that the Nintendo NX has been postponed because they don't want to sell the NX under the production costs. The second reason they have postponed the unit is that they want to have a correct line up for the release date.

About the line up reason, I just hope that "correct" means "huge". If the rumors about the easy portability of actual games on the NX is true, this huge line up can become a reality. And this line up is supposed to include the new Zelda game, which is a huge point for Nintendo ! :)

if they actually spend the time getting a decent set of launch games then it will have a much bigger impact and would make people take notice.

to be honest i feel that im one of the few that actually like the WiiU, great games, love the controller especially for stuff like Mario Maker its amazing, got the Pro controller for games that I want to play with a standard gamepad

If they can put out more games like Yoshi's Woolly World which are really fun to play i think they may be on to something

I agrre with the impact thing ! Gamecube line up was so poor. I don't remember Wii line up.

I do like the Wii U too. As it is the first system I am develloping for, thanks to a much more independant developper friendly architecture. The controller itself isn't a bad idea, as there is still classic controller for playing games (as you said). The problem is that games are not designed to use the gamepad. There is not enought Mario Maker (which is perfect for the gamepad). Tactical games would have been so great with the gamepad !

thats a good point about the gamepad I had actually forgotten that alot of games have problems with it or dont let you use the Pro controller and the Gamepad together, that is annoying

Yes, even in Mario Kart, the gamepad isn't used for nothing more than a map....It would have been great for a rear-view mirror, or to drop traps (bananas, shells,....) where you want to the map).

Some new speculation about the Nintendo NX : Games on carts instead of CDs.

As explained in this article http://www.screencritics.co.uk/2016...x-about-ditch-the-disc-drives-for-cartridges/
Macronix, a sub-contractor firm that produce chips for Nintendo since a long time, has made some declaration during the financial results briefing. And these declaration seems to be linked to the Nintendo NX (as said by an official from Macronix).

These declaration can makes us think that Nintendo may stop using CD for their system, and starting using new carts (more like SD cards or like on the PSVita) using the chips produced by Macronix. It is only a rumor, as these chips can also be use in the system itself.

But Nintendo as also registered a patent about a unit without any optical drive....

So, we may (I say May one more time as all this are only rumors) see a unit with games on carts, or a unit focus on downloads....

Is the japanese console market that bad nowadays that the new trendy thing is a tablet?
Is this in the investors point of view, I suppose?

We really don't know what will be the Wii U. Tablet is just a rumor, as all the other things.

And Japanese market isn't the problem. The problem for Nintendo is Europe and America, as they have stated in their financial report.

But I just hope that the Tablet thing isn't true haha.

Today, Nintendo's head chief has one more time explained that the NX is really an all new way to play, never made before by Nintendo, and that it will not replace Wii U and 3DS. I remember after the first Wii U sales meeting and the poor results, Nintendo has announced that they will start to make app for mobile phone market, and that they also will focus on Nintendo Home and Health hardware.

The NX could also be some kind of home assistant, connected to a lot of hardware like the Wii U and the 3DS, adding more functionnalities, and more power.

The DS was also announced as a new way to play and a third pillar next to the Game Boy and GameCube. Suffice to say that didn't really end up being the case either, so I'm wary.

Well, the Nintendo DS was a bit of a new way to play. As touch screens were not everywhere as today, it was kind of refreshing to have one on a handheld system. I am not talking about caring of a virtual dog, but Nintendo DS (and Wii) has been some kind of renewal of Point-and-Click adventures games, as the stylus and the Wii remote are great pointing device. The touch screen features has add new gameplay mecanics in a lot of video games series, like in the Zelda one. And this touch screen feature, as long as the dual screen one, has been fully used by first party and 3rd party developper, not like the screen of the Wii U. The Nintendo Network was also a great and new thing on the device market.

Many points that fits Nintendo DS announcement. Just hope that the NX will be something new enought for a long term use !

I was more referring to the 'third pillar' part. The touch screen was nice, but not particularly revolutionary, I'd say.
Also, Nintendo Network a new thing? Even Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was lagging behind the competitors of Xbox Live and PSN when it was introduced back in 2005 or so.

Even if you don't find it revolutionnary (I have never said that it was), it was still a new way to play, as it hasn't been made on a hanheld system.
About the Nintendo Network, as you can read on my post, it was a new thing on the device market. More over, it was free.

Anyway, I agree with you about the fact that Nintendo says aren't always clear and 100% true, as Wii U proved it.

Could it be possible to split the pad, and redo one new, with some accesssories between ?
    Strange..

I am still struggling to get excited about this, my main hope now is that as the NX gets closer to release the Wii U software will plummet in price and i can pick up pretty much the whole library for peanuts

I suppose that this can be usefull if we want to play on a TV screen.

I think that the Wii U games will still be at the same price, so buying the whole catalogue will still cost the same. But the good point is that the Wii U catalogue is very small haha.
