Wow. So I can like, patent the air you breath and then sue everyone for missed royalties.

Sega deserves this patent, IMO. Anyway, I guess this is a peak that Nintendo really does want to "revolutionize" the industry. I guess thats means more NES ports. :smt009

That patant renewal made everybody go apeshit thinking nintendo was making a hard drive add-on for the cube, sadly it's only a renewal of the DD's patent :-(

Make note to self whey trying to save failing game developer company: Spend less time on patents -- more time on game development.

The patent is indeed for the 64DD but this could mean that nintendo could claim royalties for stuff like Xbox live.It is believed that Nintendo's lawyers are looking into this at the moment and will be an intresting development if it turns out to be like Sega's patents on 3d games.

Pffff nintendo should use all that effort on the games and current consoles, not trying to sue the rest like microsoft does all the time.

They didn't invent 3d games but there sure was a patent file stating that Sega wanted a patent for it. I think they did get it, even though they didn't invent it, they can still get a patent for it if no-one else has. How do you think MS got to where it is?

I remember reading an article on that. Was it Gunpei Yoki(sp?) that patented the D-pad in 1981? Now cheap companies like sony are figuring ways to get around that with round D-pads and each arrow being a diferent buton. I wonder if Sega had to pay Nintendo royalties when they made the dremcast controller...

Nintendo has always been evil and dirty when it comes to their business practices (See: Forbiding companies to make games for other consoles)

  20. This takes the pi$$. Dreamcast was the first online console. No matter if the Famicom had online banking, the DC was the first online out-the-box console.

Not as if the GC even has any great number of online games.

    Bad Nintendo. Naughty.
