Could still be a upside down CD-R, just printed on - From my other topic on revolution, looks like itll be standard DVD-9's used (dual layer std. DVD's)

The discs are different... if you notice the top disk on the top NINTENDO logo it has a mark above it either a R or TM. On this disc there either isnt or there is a very very well placed dust spot there.

Bloody hell, thats very observant of you, I'd have never noticed that!
Anyway, still seems a bit too extreme to me for nintendo to use HD-DVD's - I mean for the previous 2 gens the media has been smaller than other systems, yet they still seem to fit pretty much everything needed on them (moreso in the case of the cube than n64) and going with a ~25Gb format (i believe) just seems like a bit of a waste. Unless it supports both HD-dvd and plain DVD, like the PS2 supports CD+DVD for games.......

Still, i expect if it was a HD-DVD it would have been mentioned in the press release on nintendo's site

That's good going there Paulo. Either the dust spots are an amazing coincident or they are fake like you said.

hmm, hd dvd, but nintendo said there using regular dvds, though it would not suprise me if hd was being used for development, im guessing this is from a programer, still if we did not know the source i would not be suprised, after all you can get in a shit load of trouble from a company if you leak their stuff especially if they sign a nda(non disclosure agreement), if its a photoshop, then hats off to the person who made it cause its a damn good fake pic if it is.

Sorry for the large image, but if you know the anatomy of a disk, you can easily tell it's a fake:

I hope he didn't pay any money for that...

I searched the trademark database, and there seems to be nothing registered to Nintendo containing or consisting of "RS". There were some very interesting TM's that are no longer in use, and some that still are. I'll post a couple of links if the Mods don't mind. Search for Nintendo in the database, some intresting things.

    Demo Boy

    Game Girl

    Super Mario Sisters
    http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=546iar.4.508

    Mario's Cement Factory (still live)
    http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=546iar.4.598

Mario is Missing (this sounds familiar, ad campaign?)

The closest thing I could find was a trademark registration for "RS" by Yamaha for a snowmobile.

No, but then there are no trademarks related to Nintendo NR discs, which this could be a next-generation version of.

Anyway, the discs are certainly different, just look at the code in the center ring. That doesn't make them fake (unless the owner elsewhere is claiming they're the same).

Pretty sure they are fake from the looks of it now.

Nope. HD-DVD is the format competing with Blu-ray Disc.

    No, it's the competitor

I've seen nothing conclusive to prove it either way.

Before gameboy color maybe even before gameboy pocket I was told the next "gameboy" with color graphics would be called game girl.

Super Mario Sisters? Was Nintendo thinking of getting back at Giana Sisters?

Wasn't demo boy for displaying the gameboy on a tv?

Mario's Cement Factory is a game & watch.

Good idea with the patent office.....but it takes 18 months before a patent is made public, so if it's *very* new then it might not appear on the site yet. Depends when Nintendo did it...?!

(I know cos' I have a raised patent and am waiting to see it appear on the site!)

I think they're all fakes. Note how the code printing around the centre is different on each disc - how many different HD-DVD manufacturers can there be, especially ones making custom printed discs for Nintendo!? The code printing looks very typical of normal cheap-ass CD-Rs, as is the colour of the discs - even DVD-Rs look quite different. I can't seem to find any pictures of recordable HD-DVDs (that aren't just showing the print side) from Googling so I can't compare - do any even exist yet in recordable format?

I think someone's just been printing on or Photoshopping the data sides of CD-Rs, especially given the evidence that they appear to be the data side of the disc.

Why a logo similar to the DS logo? Why another similar acronym? And why would Nintendo use such cheap printing? Look, for example, at Dreamcast GD-Rs (courtesy of Yakumo):

The whole side of the disc is printed on, more or less, like with any decent quality writable media - the other stuff tends to fall apart easily. And there are specific spaces for name, version, date, etc. like any other *proper* pre-production discs.

Also, one more thing from a business point of view: As shown with the Gamecube, Nintendo have recently become good friends with Panasonic (part of Matsushita), a company who have not announced anything about supporting the HD-DVD format and at the moment are backing the Blu-Ray standard along with Sony. And still, this is all besides the question of whether the next-gen games really need discs of such capacity - most new games still fit comfortably on single-layer DVD-ROMs (i.e. 4.37GB). Only some of the really big games like GT4 and MGS3 have appeared on DVD-9s.
