I'm following this for any and all followups. I'm really curious to see what's on that cartridge, especially when it's dated and says "Demo" on it (I want to think it says "Demo Copy" or something along those lines, but I don't know any Kanji). Best of luck getting it running though, it looks like it does use a lot of the SNES' peripherals including controllers and video out, which is interesting.

Also this is top trending on Facebook right now. Dang.

The design reminds me of home stereo stand alone CD players from the 90's (mostly because of the top buttons having CD player only buttons and an LCD screen). Or it kind of looks like one of Sony's line of alarm clocks (aka Dreammachine). Hoping its real. Undecided at the moment.

What's the legal status of this device? As it was ordered destroyed, could Nintendo/Sony claim it's their property and seize it? Are there prohibitions on selling, replication, dumping, use?

This is kind of ironic, because I just signed up for the same thing here as well XD.
Anyways, its sweet that we get to finally see one of these prototypes for the first time as we've never really seen them out in the wild like this. Hopefully he gets it up in running and we can finally see what it looks like. My hype meter is through the roof.

I know this has nothing to do with the Nintendo Playstation, but this video is hype in general I feel. It just provides excitement in general.

Dnldbld - do you have the CD for the unit separately?

If so, please try reading it in a PC and see if you find any files on it etc.

Even if the PC doesn't show any files but the drive seems to spin up OK, it's likely the disk contents could be backed-up and preserved.

It might even only take using something like ImgBurn to create an image of the disk. ;)

Please give it a go if you have chance. It's seriously important to at least get the contents of the CD preserved if at all possible.

The story of your find has gone proper viral now - you're on the huffington post, and even on the sodding Metro magazine. lol

Oh, and - do you have a safe in your house or somebody else's? You might be needing it soon. Please don't let that machine / cartridge / disks / controllers / cables out of your sight.

Wonder if it does RGB through the Multi Out? Probably does if it's based on SFC architecture. If only they'd kept the power requirements the same! Rather surprised that it uses less voltage; the SFC was rated at DC 10v 850ma.

I'm a few pages behind and have some things to do today, but it's probably not related to DVI -- the predecessor to DVI was a connector called FPD -- I have some monitors and old video cards at work that still use them, and they can be converted to DVI. Doesn't look at all like this.

The NEXT port is probably mostly expansion, as seen on most consoles but rarely used, haha. It does look like the DC's serial connector a bit, but that doesn't really mean anything.

Anyways, what do you guys think is on the cartridge that came with the Playstation? I personally think it's some type of BIOS as it probably wouldn't have a BIOS chip inside since it is just a prototype. I wonder if the cartridge will work on a regular Super Famicom?

I'm as eager to see such a rare console surface, as the rest of you are. But, I'm kinda disappointed that the French dude decided to be a comedian and joke around about how it was supposedly fake, and the joke got improperly translated and now there's people out there that think this console is a fake. I for one, believe that this prototype is real. Oh, and I hope that the owner gets the needed power supply for his precious PlayStation-SNES Super Disc system, and fire it up! :D

Now, this is my first post in quite a while mind you.

I imagine the cart is a proto test thing for booting disks or checking functions.
You never know though, it might have some sort of test game on it?

The cart could well work on a regular Famicom too, as they would likely have kept the cartridge slot buffers 5-Volt tolerant, and it was always meant to be compatible with normal SNES carts.

Of course, nobody knows yet if it does use 3V3 voltage levels for the main logic, but it would be the first ever "Nintendo" 3V3 console if it does.

btw, I would gladly send Daniel (the owner) a brand-new power supply and cables for the unit if he wanted. ;)

Add a bit of belgium in it and you're in for a misunderstanding.

Also, the guy got interviewed by Polygon, and we know how this ended up uncovered:

I know I could drive to Phili if necessary. I have a SFC sitting here ready to go and a 4k camera.

Who knows really. That's the exciting part of it all. Either way, real or fake, we get to have some fun :)

Just dropped by here for the first time in a while, great discovery here. Thanks to OP for sharing all that he has so far, this truly looks fascinating.

I really do not believe it's fake. I mean it's something to scoff at a single blurry photograph, but between the highly detailed photos, the just-uploaded video and the story that seems (to me at least) completely legit (just the kind of twist of fate that usually leads to these kinds of discoveries).

For the people who still doubt because of the uneven yellowing on the bottom part, have you considered that it might be because the controller that is presented in the photos was actually plugged into the system itself, for years on end even ?

Just like I said: The 329075839530 video game "Journalist" sites will now retread each others' poorly worded articles for the next few days telling us stuff we already know.

Reading the Polygon piece, makes you wonder what other systems his father kept from Advanta?
