Not a bad idea really, the problem is the game selection: DK, Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Mario Tennis, Metroid Prime 1 & 2 and Chibi Robo. Is not the kind of cool games that didnt sell enough on the GC, in fact most of them were quite popular. If they were going to release the RogueSquadron series, Killer7, Eternal Darkness, awesome, since those were great games that had a bad run due to the GC's lack of an adult market (and a sizable market share too). On the other hand more new, Wii-only games are still better than these ports. Wheres the new Starfox Nintendo? its been 3 years since assault, and that one wasnt great either...
It seems thies games will be modified to use the Wii-motes for input. It could actualy benifit some games.
I guess they rerelease Pikmin (1&) 2 in Japan because there is has become quite rare and sought-after since they stopped production. As you said these are good games but I don't see a necessity for a rerelease - apart from Metroid Prime, Wiimote-controls could be a great feature. On the other hand I don't think rereleasing games for a platform that wasn't so much sold-out all the time is very reasonable.
Of course every game will have a wiimote upgrade, if not it would be a complete scam... On the other hand they could keep making those GC games (the GC is still selling believe it or not) and release a wiimote patch instead.
DK Jungle Beat and Pikmin were shown to have widescreen in the videos on the Nintendo JP site.. I hope this is extended to all Nintendo re-releases!:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:
DK Junglebeat? it better support Kongas-the wii remote ruined DK Jet Race or whatever it's called. Pikmin? yeah, why not, although I cant think of a better way to control Olimar and the pikmin than the dual stick setup.
They're listed as going for 3800Yen in Japan, so that means they will most likely go for $30 in the U.S.A. and Canada. We can all hope for $20... but I feel Nintendo won't be so generous like that. xD .-. Pricing is noticeably different in Japan compared to U.S.A./Canada though.. There exists a "tier" system, so to speak. Certain Nintendo-published Wii games that retailed 4800/5800/6800Yen over there were simply $50 over here. So... you can't be too sure.
I say Nintendo should stop fucking about and bring out some new original games. The ONLY game they've made for the Wii so far that like is Zelda but that was also on the Game Cube! The Game Cube games that Nintendo will re-release can all be found cheaply and easily here in Japan so what's the point for us? New gimik controls for games that weren't designed to have them in the first place? Yakumo
I think it's great they are bringing these over. One of the big complaints with gaming is the previous entries for a series is rarely made available when a new entry comes out. Re-releasing the Metroid Prime games will let people play through the trilogy who missed the first two, and it looks like Pikmin will be a trilogy in the same boat now, too. I'm excited for Mario Tennis, out of the games in Wii Sports, tennis seems to always get the most play, and the Gamecube Mario Tennis was pretty good. Wii controls on it should fit in nicely.
to be frank, Pikmin 1 and 2, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, they both fit on a single Wii Disk. I hope they don't retail in seperate packages, because that would be just lame. It's indeed attractive to have two games on a single disc and allowing for their classic GameCube controls would be a welcomed feature.
More laziness from Nintendo. They should be developing new games, not just re-releasing old ones to fill in the gaps in the release schedule. Donkey Konga Jungle Beat will be crap without the bongos - why not just produce more of the cube packs again, seeing as they work fine on a wii and the bongos are a major part of the fun, or how about wireless bongos?. And as for Mario Tennis, thats a total joke, they really should be making a new version instead. Minimum effort for maximum profit, thats how nintendo works. The chances of these games being sold at a genuinely budget price are extremely slim.
It would be cool to try them with Wiimote support, but I bet the price will suck. The DSi pisses me off too. I'm starting to not like nintendo or the Wii.
I have to agree. Adding waggle to gamecube games that don't really need it seems pointless, jungle beat was designed around the bongos porting it to the wii will just give it horrid floaty controls. I saw the travesty of DK jet race after they moved that from gamecube to wii, it would have been brilliant with the bongos but no they decided to use the wii remote instead & thats why it plays like shit. I can sort of understand the reasoning behind it seeing as a lot of people just ignored the gamecube when it was out (shame on you all) so theres a lot of games that the new wii audience won't have seen before this is what im guessing nintendo are trying to do, bring their older stuff to their new market. No gamecube game is that rare in japan unless you count hibaihin stuff, yahoo auctions & countless shops are flooded with gc stuff.
You know what seems even more stupid is that in Japan ALL Game Cube games sold in major game store or places such as Yamada Denki or Geo actually have "Wii Compatible" stickers on them and placed next to the Wii stuff. Nintendo are just going after easy money rather than producing something new and amazing! Where is Star Fox? How about Pilotwings? How about anything that doesn't have bloody Mario in it? Yakumo
Nintendo asking for money for old rope with a bit of varnish, perish the thought. Y3800? They are taking the piss aren't they? Wonder if Nintendo are going to announce the Wii 2 next week?
