    End of thread.

Besides, the games will be "only" 1/3 cheaper than wii, this means in europe 30-35 euros ... too expensive for me.

Huh. Guess I'm alone in being interested to see how these would play on the Wii.

Not that I own one. Yakumo, given that you do, it's probably a little late to start moaning that there's a lot of Mario going around. It's a Nintendo machine, what the fuck were you expecting? It's like going to Disneyland and complaining that you're sick of seeing Mickey Mouse everywhere.

The Halo thing is a different kind of brand for a different demographic. Back in the nineties, though, Sega were throwing Sonic into everything - even Megadrive titles like Art Alive and Wacky Worlds which had bugger all to do with him. What a bunch of cocks Sega were back then, eh? What I'm trying to say is, this kind of brand-awareness overload is typical for corporate mascots, especially ones that appeal to a younger audience.

And anyway, my point wasn't that Nintendo's "let's stick Mario everywhere" approach isn't over the top (although it certainly doesn't bother me). My point was that if you don't like Mario games then you might want to reconsider buying a Wii, because you can guarantee he'll be in pretty much all the best, first-party titles. And as long as they're great games, honestly, who gives a fuck. If it really bothers you, draw Master Chief on a post-it note and stick it to the middle of your TV. Problem solved.

I'll sum it all in one sentence: They re-released the hardware, why not the software?

Sure the games already run on the wii, and in any case nintendo could release a patch or two for wiimote compatibility and 16:9.

But then again, why did they release the wii in the first place when they could just release the wiimote for the GC?;-)

    Thats how business work guys...

Not quite, plus the 4 Sonic games on the Genesis were all AAA and sometimes the best you could get on the console, while today we get a sonic game every 5 friggin minutes and all are crap.

Well, Sonic being in the back ground or on the screen is different then a ton of Mario sports games and stuff, but you are right, there not bad games or anything.

I couldn't survive with just a Wii. I'd just stop playing anything. I am looking forward to the Conduit though.

with regard to having mario in everything.. well I m used to it and I wouldnt like it any other way. I grew up with SEGA and Nintendo, and they slapped their mascots even on hardware - SEGA CD boot screen comes to mind, 64DD bootscreen too!

the XBOX and PS brands keep their console and titles more apart for some reason. I don't think that SONY has any real mascot characters, do they? (crash was a good one)

    Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Why would they even think of this as a good idea? They got people to buy the same system over and over again, okay, fine, but now we're gonna re-buy games that already work on the Wii? What? I just don't get it. How could anyone get sucked into this marketing scheme?

And even if they did add new "waggle' functionality, that would only make the games worse. The single worst thing about the Wii is that developers just don't know how to use the system's capability. Sorry, but a good portion of Wii games' motion sensing features are forced and archaic. And it's that reason that makes me not want to play a lot of Wii games out there.

OK, well what about Sega? Was Sonic in every other game Sega produced? I think not. How many Sonic games were there on the Dreamcast? Let's see, Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Shuffle and err.... That's it. Sonic may have made a guest appearance as a mascot in some games but even then there's be no more than 5 of them. Now let's look at the Wii with Mario (That's been on sale far less than the DC was it's entire life span). Ok we have Paper Mario, Mario Sunshine, Mario Party 8, Super Smash Bros, Mario All Star Soccer, Mario Kart, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics and Super Mario Family Baseball. That's a total of 8 bloody games with Mario is in less than 2 years. Let's face it, Nintendo hoar more than a 5 dollar hooker.

I'm no Nintendo basher that's for sure. I loved the Super Famicom and still have a very good selection of games for it and have owned my Wii since day 1 but there's nothing worse than seeing a company hoar stuff in an attempt to make easy money rather than making something original.

The thing is that Nintendo's games aren't the great titles people make them out to be. Mario Kart was nothing like the Arcade which is what we really needed on the Wii. Mario Galaxy was way over rated as well. As for the sports titles, they're piss poor as well compared to "real" sports titles. Nintendo only produce a really good game once every blue moon. For Mario the last one would be Mario 64. Others that spring to mind would be Pilotwings and F-Zero 64. F-Zero AX/GX is better but that was produced be Sega Rosso.

Well technically there are 4 games if you cound Sonic Adventure International in Japan. :p

Pity Nintendo farmed out Pilotwings on the N64 as it was nowhere as good. :(

I agree to some extent. I love Mario Galaxy but it didn't get me as well as Mario 64, but if I had to play a sports game, I like Nintendos.

However, if you look past all the usual whore Nintendo stuff, Nintendo does have some real diamonds. For instance, Metroid, Wario, Pikmin, a lot of handheld stuff, etc are all great, and you don't hear a ton about them. Metroid being one of my favorites; Metroid Prime on the Gamecube made me buy a Gamecube back when it came out. But I get what you mean.

I wouldnt compare mario 64 with Galaxy. One emphasizes on freedom and exploration, whereas the other highlights advanced platforming in 3D space - apples to oranges I won't compare, but I ll certainly say that they both rank among the best 3D platformers I have ever experienced. Galaxy was amazing - Mario 64 had innovation and freshness on its side.

I want a new F-zero title so badly - hell I m playing wipeout just to feel at home:(

PS: the new mariokart is ass. The game is too easy (Driving-wise) the levels are too loose (Especially the remade levels, since the proportions are incorrect compared to the players), and the item system is entirely unfair, in extend breaking the single player experience for me.

The DS andthe N64 versions of (3D) Mariokart are my favourites, thanks mainly to thei spot-on controls (Feels like a Kart, not a piece of wood on wheels).

Mario Kart on the GBA is amazingly good too!

When they DO innovate, they make something amazing (i.e Pikmin) Back in the NES days they were the main innovator, although you could argue that anything back then was a fresh idea. They need to refocus their development, at least cater to Nintendo fans.

You have to admit that despite Mario being in everything, their games are tonnes of fun. I bought MK64 and played it co-op every night, it's great. Then I went and bought Double Dash, which had the same result.

Thats why i dont have a wii yet :), I'm not paying $250 for it, i'll buy it when it goes down too $100, thats all it is worth for me. I'll pay $400 for a ps3 though and 200 for a 360 it's preatty reasonable to me too.

Rereleasing games is fab, but it would have to be N64 games on a Wii disk. They buggers don't fit in the 512MB memory so 8 or more on a disk would be welcome...

In was one of my reasons for buying a Wii, N64 games, and that's been disappointing. My N64 choices are the original console which is blurry with controller I hate, emulators which are crap, or Wii. Wii would be an excellent choice if Nintendo would just get their arse in gear.

Or just open up SDRAM cards for game loading already.

As for Mario Galaxy it's the best platformer I've had in a long while, and by a long way. They're so thin on the ground these days.

Right on cue, you're getting shit wrong and missing my point. Outside of the Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles (which I assume is the four you're talking about), there's also Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D, both of which are pretty mediocre games, not to mention Dr Robotnic's Mean Bean Machine. I count seven Sonic-featured games there, nine if you include Wacky Worlds and Art Alive, which is more than enough for me to consider it whoring. I can't believe anyone would dispute this, anyway - don't you remember the early to mid nineties, Yakumo? Sonic pencils, shirts, spaghetti, bubble bath, christmas crackers... if Sega could slap Sonic on it and charge a premium, they did. Why the fuck not? It's good business, and kids lapped it up.

None of those were truly sonic games, spin-offs at most. MBM was actually a pretty decent game (being a western version of puyopuyo) and more like an answer to doctor mario, which was more tetris-like. Sonic3D while it sucked (for me at least, some people love it) at least it was a technical breakthrough, pushing the genesis beyond its limits.

Wacky worlds and art alive didnt even had the franchise's name on it, unlike mario paint and mario picross...

And dont start with the merchandise shit, nintendo whored every franchise it had since the 80s, from bath soap to cereal, fuck! the wizard was pretty much a long ad for the nes, and the mario movie sucked more than all crappy sonic cartoons put together.

Not with the wii demographic. All the non-gamers will be buying up pikmen for their wii on ebay only to wonder why the wiimote doesn't work.
