Nokia have announced that they have partnered with a Finnish company to start producing Android based mobile phones. The Nokia partnership with Microsoft is due to expire this year, leaving the opportunity open for Nokia to ditch Windows Mobile platform in favour for Android
And that's why Microsoft is shedding itself of the Nokia brand. "Microsoft still retains the right to use and build Windows 10 Mobile phones under the Lumia moniker, and support phones from other OEM partners like Acer, Alcatel, HP, Trinity and VAIO."
Nope, Symbian ruined them. They clung to that garbage dinosaur OS for way too long as the competition moved on to better stuff (and it's saying a lot that even the complete load of shit that was early Android was still more usable than Symbian).
They have a slim chance at staging a comeback. It's a long shot - the market is over-saturated and veering towards stagnation and a burst. Most niches and developing world markets have long been cornered by Asian interests. They've been completely dwarfed by their once-small / non-existent competitors so much that they are now in the same irrelevant spot their competitors were in 10-15 years ago. Outside of some creative gymnastics, I'd imagine that operating out of Finland as a small competitor in this day and age would cost a lot more than operating as a small competitor out of East Asia in the early 2000s. Some of the Lumia sets were alright in terms of hardware, but Windows Phone is mediocre. Going exclusively with it makes their phones uninteresting.
There's no way a new manufacturer is making jack shit on the Android market. Samsung has monopolized the high-end market and there's no competing with Chinese companies like Huawei for the cheaper stuff. Even Sony is eating an annual $100 million loss on their phones.
And their cheaper stuff is often very close to high end in every way except the price, there's no chance in mid-range segment for Nokia - Meizu, Xiaomi etc. will eat them alive.
An ex-owner and current owner of Meizu and Xiaomi. Both fantastic manufactures. I would say Xiaomi have bit more quality and OS is a lot nicer.
I agree, I way preferred Sony's feature phone OS over Symbian. It was always why I went with the Sony phones over Nokia back then. Hardware wise they were both good, but Sony's software just felt better in every respect. Symbian felt archaic in 2006, whereas Sony's was a very well put together OS with good looks and animations as a bonus.
Agreed, though I'd have to say that Sony is pretty terrible at advertising anything that isn't PlayStation or cameras. Samsung has become such a powerhouse in part because of their aggressive advertising campaigns. Meanwhile, I have never once seen an ad for the Sony Xperia line.
Also battery life. 7+ hours watching 1080p H.265 movies and 20% battery left... Also the price, their mid-range phones are as good as high-end models from Samsung (not the latest top of course but previous flagship model which is still selling and costs 2+ times higher). Redmi Note 3 Pro 32Gb is simply the best thing you can get for the price - Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge got 2560x1440 resolution but do you really need anything higher than 1080p on 5.5" screen? You need to get a microscope to see a single pixel and camera shoots in way higher resolution, picture will be scaled down anyway. Xiaomi wins with 4000mAh battery and OS that uses much less memory.
The only problem with all the cheaper phones is their internal build quality. They are pretty flimsy inside..
Not in this case (Redmi Note 3 (Pro)) - it's more than adequate for the price. Better than serviceman's nightmare Galaxy S6 and a lot better than BentPhone 6.
Did you know Samsung even don't have a clean way of opening any of their sealed handsets (S5 and up). I like their uses of one of those cheap plywood ovens though Bending iphones back to shape is pretty simple, however the motherboard bends too! Biggest problem on the 6 and especially 6+ is the touch and LCD drivers breaking because they are not underfilled :/ Just looked up some pics of the Redmi N3, you are right, pretty good build quality. However they did skimp in some places, mainly no kapton over the flat flex connectors or over the Sim slot (it's to keep things sturdy and dust out). Also no thermal bonding between Flash, CPU and can cover. Save a few cents per handset save a bunch on the line
