Anyone know what kind of mod chip this is? I saw it sold on Yahoo Japan over the weekend and having never seen the chip with two sets of slots I'm quite curious what this thing is... cheers
I copied the picture to the desktop but forgot to note the auction number. neverthless if memory seves me correctly the seller called this one ss-key/st-key?
Sounds like a Saturn mod chip. Didn't they need to be connected to a cartridge type slop between the CD drive and mother board? Yakumo
it is the mod chip but i never seen one with two sets of connectors... when you think about it you only need a set of connectors - one goes to CD board and the other goes to M/B but two sets for each end?
For two types of Saturns. The different revisions had different ribbon cables and chips were usually compatible with one or the other. Put two connectors on there for each type of cable and you've got one chip that'll work anywhere. -hl718
Yeah, that's the one I got. Never looked at it, and hardly used it other than the betas. But the "SS-key" seems to be the Saturn modchip of choice amongst our JPN friends.
Yes, it's definately one of the rarer 21/20 Pin Sega Saturn Modchips. Generally (but not 100% definately) you could say that nearly all Saturns with oval buttons are 20 Pin ribbon units, nearly all "cheap" Saturns with round buttons are 21 Pin ribbon units.
how much it goes in Japan GaijinPunch? I remember the auction went just ted below 5000 yen... is it easy to get? I woudln't mind to get one to fit into my CartDev Saturn...
20 pin Saturn modchips are the holy grail for some warez kiddies on SegaXtreme, buy it and sell it to them I'd say
Yea, Its for 20/21 pin saturns. Ive seen them before (although its been several years). Its become probably one of if not the rarest modchip ever made. I've seen them sell for upwords of $300.
$300, just buy the $5 one and then a $5 saturn to match it, People are stupid sometimes. A PIRACY DEVICE is not collectible.
But if there are suckers out there willing to pay that amount so that they don't have to buy Radiant Silver Gun or Panzer Dragoon Saga, I'd say sell it for that amount.
300 for a ModChip...? It'd beat the whole point of piracy... boy, are people dumb or what...? I mean, I can make a copy of Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire (if I had an ISO and stuff) on a 30 cent CD-R and use like 5 cents worth of electricity doing so.... but it's still not the same than OWNING the damn expensive beautiful Akitaka-drawn package. This chip, however. ¿Does it do imports, or is it just for copied discs?
Saturn mod chips only enable you to play copies. You still need a switch (or action replay) to play imports. -hl718
$300? I recall the auction ended ted below 5000 yen which is like $49? if it goes for $300 I will pick up a bag full of 'em next time I visit my auntie... wth... I've asked on other forum to see anyone can come up with some value... he he
