It was freezing during updates the Screen kept going black then it finally...went black for good. and My Toshibia satliite went to be with Cyber Jesus (presumibly the guy who invented Linux. So, Custom, Dell XPS, Refurb Alienware (ONLY way I can afford one) or HP? May be a few months before I get one. Arcade Stick, Blazblue CP and Jojo's take priority over a new Laptop but when the time comes. Also for capturing video from Emulators what's the best thing to use? As for all my consoles What should I get for a Capture divice? I want to take my videos up a notch and move away from off screen shit.
Lenovo is good. ASUS is good. As for Sony, Dell, and Toshiba.. Their flagships can shine brightly, their lower-end models will tend to suffer more quickly (as always). As HEX1GON mentioned, HP laptops are bad. So many broken DV6's/DV7's, so many burnt-out GPUs... Onkyo laptops seem to be pretty high quality too, but they are usually exclusive to the Japanese market.
My Toshiba lasted almost 5 years until today when it unexpectedly (but not really took a shit and died. I'm really leaning towards a Refurb Alienware or some kind of Desk top replacement notebook. I really just want to avoid being stuck with the Living Malware that is Windows 8. I HATE THAT OS. I have never hated an OS more than I do windows 8...besides Anything Apple.
Are you sure the laptop is dead? Have you tested things like the battery, screen, and drive to make sure one of those isn't the issue (and possible repairable)? As for a replacement, I would suggest a MacBook, but it sounds like you're looking for something cheaper. Have you considered getting a desktop instead, or does it need to be portable? Desktops are a lot cheaper per the amount of processing and graphical power they offer, especially if you build one yourself. If portability is important, then obviously a desktop is out of the question. But if you do most of your computing at home, then it's something to consider. Another option is to get both a desktop and a laptop!
I HATE APPLE macbooks are a no go. I don't have room for a desktop either nor the power I'm already dangerously close to overloading the circuit in my room. It's just time for a new laptop. I lost no data from the current one, I already had several "repairs' done to it several in the last few months, the Hard drive was new. It's just time for a new I was getting vibes the end was near for it but I was in denial. I Loved that machine when it was working but it's time to move on and get something beefier. At this point it's more cost effective to just buy a new computer and startover.
Don't hate Apple. Apple doesn't hate you! (I would assume) If it weren't for Apple, things like Personal Computers and mainstream GUIs wouldn't exist at all.
Considering how much Apple price gouges.... I think they do hate me. Hell maybe Steve Jobs him self cursed my laptop from hell and dragged it down with him. Microsoft is on my shit list too. Considering it was Windows update that pretty much caused my laptop's death. Honestly no matter what I end up with I'm going to have a friend install my old windows 7 ultimate disc and key and duel boot with a Linux distro. Either Mint or Ubuntu.
Windows Update is pretty much bloatware and is at it's best when it's either disabled or removed. Service Packs, security rollups, and anything actually beneficial can be downloaded in pure form as IT Redistributables.
I learned that the hardware if I just turned it off I'm sure my laptop would still be functioning right now and I wouldn't be looking at used Dell XPS' and Aleinwares (Again ONLY way I can afford them)
Both of these things existed before Apple, and especially the idea of a personal computer had been around for a while. PCs would've existed even if Apple had never been around.
Yeah... I will only ever buy HP laptops. Had one that lasted like 10 years with much abuse plus bad experiences with other brands. I'd try an Asus but I imagine their bang to buck ratio is poor. OP what's wrong with a PC? I imagine you're not going to be recording game play videos on the move? You should be able to build yourself a nice mini ITX system for around the same price as a refurb Alienware or whatever. Plus if something fails a few years down the line you can easily replace the component.
I just don't have room for a desktop in my room My gaming area is too big I have this long dresser that I doubles as my desk but all my fighting games are lined up in the back so a desktop would make me have to move those,s Plus I'd need a monitor as my TV is not well suited to PC viewing (Small text gets blurry and there's overscan) So getting another laptop is the best way to go it saves me room and I can move it from my dresser/desk to my bed with relative ease and bring it downstairs for parties when music is needed...or MAME. My Toshiba doesn't owe me anything ....other than the money it took fixing it this last time.
NEVER get an HP, I had one that had 2 motherboard failures and 3 DVD-RW failures in the 2 years that I had it, it would also be a b**** to install anything on it since it would often corrupt data under heavy load. Also, don't get an Apple if it dies the parts are usually hard to find at a tolerable price. Also F*** Acer they are worse than HP.
