So I have had this nr reader for a while and I have been wondering if it is either PAL or NTSC. It does not have the US/JAP switch on the side of the unit.
Is there any way to tell what it is?

NTSC one shouldn't have a language options menu.

Actually if it doesn't have the US/JPN switch, then its a PAL unit. NTSC units have the switch.

If I try to connect it to an ntsc tv will it damage the console? Is there any way to convert it so it is compatible with ntsc games?

HDTVs are more likely to accept pal. few crts did.

A modchip might enable ntsc games, but I don't know what chips have been tested on nr reader. the system menus would still display pal.

Should be able to connect it to a US TV via component if it supports 60Hz. Otherwise if you have a PC monitor that accepts TV inputs, it should display PAL content no problem.

If he/she doesn't already have a component cable, it might run them almost as much as the NR reader is worth lol.

Another easy way to check what region the system is is to check the serial number on the sticker. If it starts with a P then the unit is PAL, if not P is present then it'll be an NTSC unit.

And the easiest way to convert it would be to grab an NTSC motherboard and swap that in. The DVD unit is where the magic happens I believe.
