    Hey guys,

I live in Ireland (which has 240v AC power) and will be buying an NTSC PlayStation 1 console soon. I have my eye on the SCPH-7501 model due to it being a later model but still having the parallel I/O port.

Does anyone know if I can swap out the NTSC consoles power supply with a PAL consoles power supply, so that I can run the NTSC console off 240v AC power?

A few people online say its OK, others say it might not work. I'm keen to avoid using a step down transformer. Any help greatly appreciated.

As long as the pinout is the same on the power supplies it should be fine.

Lol, beat me to it. Your motherboard is looking to receive stable DC voltages eg 3.3v, 5v and 12v (and GND). A psx psu from a PAL console will provide those voltages (and currents) from a 240v AC source. Just make sure the pin outs From the psu matchup when connecting to the mobo.

Yeah, this will work - the PSUs from the SCPH-55x2, SCPH-7002, SCPH-7502 and SCPH-9002 machines all have the same pinout. On paper, they have slightly different ratings (with the newer models supplying less power), but in practice this doesn't seem to matter and there is enough margin that a SCPH-900x PSU will run a PU-18 with no problems.

Thanks for all the replies guys. When you say make sure the pin-out is the same, could I just check that with a multi-meter or do I need to find the information online somewhere.

I currently have a PAL SCPH-5552 console, judging by what TriMesh said that power supply should work OK in an American NTSC SCPH-7501 console?

Pinout comment is just general information.

You can just swap it over with no problems

Yea. Basically, if the connector fits, it will work.
