Ok so I'm sticking it to DeathSmiles and just about an hour ago I complete what I think is my best run of the game ever. Cleared Arcade on level 3 with 3 continues...NO achievement (it was one of those return to the real world achievements)
I have no idea what achievement you are talking about, there are just so many of them and most are so demandind such minor effort that I hardly care reading my way through the list. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/death-smiles-na/achievements/ Which? :O Oh and clearing a game with 3 continues should never be rewarded
you're right to be confused Family Reunion15 Return Windia to the real world. Xbox 360 / Arcade I think the reason it didn't go through was because lives were for whatever reason set to 5 instead of 3. But it was never clear that you had to clear it with default settings. and trust me me clearing a shmup with 3 continues on it's higest difficulty is a HUGE deal for me
You have to use default settings. The first time you change the settings in the options it makes a message pop up that says you may not get some achivments with custom settings or something like that. I would have to guess thats the reason.
This is like the 3time I did something to not get an achivement. other times it's pressing start after clearing the game.
GoH There's only one real achievement you should be aiming for: 1 Credit Clear... even not playing all rank 3's and skipping the Canyon. Put your panties on and start practicing. you can do it! </Mexican Accent>
3 continues with lives set to 5 for Deathsmiles? Reading that actually caused me a brief moment of pain.
While I understand that different people have different tastes and approaches to gaming and what not, a word of advice from someone who used to be heavily into 2D shooters (and was fairly good at them I suppose): It is much much much much much much MUCH more rewarding to not continue. Yes, you want to see that next level, that next boss, get your achievements, whatever. Fine, I understand that. However, you are truly robbing yourself of the incremental feelings of accomplishment by plowing through a 2D shooter on multiple credits. At that point, the games might as well not even be about skill or challenge but instead be lumped in the pile with the current day "Collect-a-thon/Duck-and-recover" type games, only 2D shooters are consideraly shorter so it really cheapens the experience even further. When I quit chunking credits into my 2D shooters, I found them to be vastly more enjoyable and they lasted longer. There's much more of an edge to it when you approach level 5 for the first time WITHOUT the security blanket of "Whatever, I'll credit feed to level 6!" Just a word to the wise.
Your advice is all well and good but you missed one very important detail. CONTINUING RESETS YOUR SCORE!!!!! That said I do wish there was a credit cap on Deahsmiles and Futari so I could get better at them
What's a "credit cap"? If it's about the continues, just set "continue" to "no" in the options menu and you can't credit feed anymore, most games provide this standard feature. I can only agree on jp.'s opinion. Playing for 1CC is very rewarding and more fun than credit feeding by far. I play only for score and 1CC, couldn't imagine to just feed my way through a shooter, where would be the fun in that?
Something akin to what Ikaruga and Boarder Down do where if gives you so many credits but as you play through you get more.
So you basically want something to artificially limit your own lack of self-discipline? JUST DON'T PUSH THE BOTTAN!
Please point out where I even mentioned score in my post. I wasn't even considering a serious play for score. I'm just saying in general. You can 1CC Ikaruga and DDP without playing for score. Hell, you can easily 1CC Deathsmiles without playing for score.
IMO, it's a good idea to play through a shooter at least once using a shitload of credits so you know what the stages and bosses are like...
