Yeah, but doing it once isn't a dealbreaker. We aren't talking about crack here. When you start playing a particular 2D-shooter, I'd also recommend to press continue one time after the credit is over. That way you can prepare better for what's coming next in the following run.

Different strokes for different folks then I suppose. Personally, I would disagree. Back when I was heavy into the genre I would never EVER continue, and I felt my experience was the better for it.

Most shooting games, save a few recent ones, are probably not clearable in any human mount of time w/o practicing (w/ continues). All the top players do it.

Do musicians only play full runs and not start over when they fuck up? This isn't exactly art or performance, but hey, gotta relate it to something.

Nope, they practice the hell out of the piece before the performance and if their tempo is off a bit or a few notes they keep going. You don't see anyone throwing hissy fits on stage because of a note played at too high a pitch. Back stage is a different story.

As for credit feeding yeh there is a bit of a loss of fun/challenge when you have infinite lives just sitting there but it allows you the ability to find out what the whole game is like before you burn 40 hours a week playing it just to get some mythical high score. Keep in mind that an extremely small fraction of the world considers it a good use of time to do that if not borderline mental disorder of some sort (likely garden variety OCD).

I'm just noting my personal experiences, and I'm primarily referring to the 1CC.

If playing competitively for score then sure, I can see how a hardcore diehard of a certain game is going to continue to memorize some more.

But for a simple 1CC? Come the fuck on. I managed to 1CC Metal Black without ever continuing, as well as Thunder Force IV (both of which are heavy on memorization). Actually, most of the 50 or so shooters I've 1CC'd I never used continues on.

Did you choose the right ending? After you complete the game there is an option where you select to go back to the real world or stay where you are.

I played Ikaruga for a mere 450+ hours. So some people say because of that, I probably suffer from borderline metal disorder? What retards are you referring to?

Everybody who spends a lot of time on his hobby that is something else but sports or takes place outside is in danger to become sick of life. Stamp collectors, audiophiles, cinema enthusiasts, historians - sick people all the way, there should be a cure for that.

Hey, I see what you mean. I'm playing Bonanza Bros. PCB now (very slowly) and haven't continued yet. But, that's kind of a different can of worms.... I'm also used to playing the Cave ones, and I also play for maximum score which adds to the tediousness.

Different strokes for different folks: but I definitely wouldn't say I enjoy them any less b/c I did continue-style practice. Probably the opposite. ESPGaluda II still took me 3 weeks of solid play to 1CC when I owned the PCB... and about 3 months to get a non-shitty score. I'd have jumped out the window if I couldn't continue.
